How do I grow dandelions?

Anonymous
People spend a lot of time and money ridding their lawns and gardens of weeds. Please don't, OP.

I'll make sure to send our dandelions your way, since you love them so much.

I like you, OP. This thread has already gotten a lot of folks' underwear in a twist. You can see if someone will let you dig up their dandelions. Otherwise you can purchase seeds. The botanical name is Taraxacum Officinale

+1

DH spends a significant amount of time keeping our yard dandelion free. He'd be livid if your kids started blowing the seeds our way.

Find a park where they are growing wild.

Your husband sounds like an asshole.

NP - that's not nice. you don't realize how much effort some people put in to keep their lawns dandelion free.

It's his choice to put in all that effort. Others don't have to bow to him just because of that.

My pets love dandelions. I do have lots of dandelions in my yard but am running out. I may have to start planting...

You are welcome to come to my house and harvest all you want. We have 3 acres of untreated lawn.

Ugh I spend a lot of time digging up dandelions in my yard (I'm not a weed free garden freak either, but these are the worst because they spread). I hate how ugly they are, especially after the flower goes away. I'd be pissed if my neighbors were growing them.

plant all you want. just don't blame me if my weed killer chemicals ends up on your child's face/hands or his lungs.

(Yes I realize this is the anti-gardening question...apologies. The things we do for our kids)

I'm growing tomatoes this year and my 6 year old asked me if I had ever thought about planting dandelions instead. I asked why and he said they are better because they come with wishes.

I just love kids so much.

The problem is that they take over. No one wants a lawn full of dandelions. My husband and I do our own organic lawn care and have a Garden Weasel style tool to get rid of dandelions, and we aerate and re-seed twice a year to help keep them at bay. I've also had success using a mix of white vinegar/lemon oil/dish soap and water sprayed on them on sunny days. We use the pre-emergent corn gluten which actually works quite well overall. I have tons of garden beds devoted to pollinators but I don't want them flying all over my lawn where my children and dog play and can get stung. If I had 50 sq ft maybe I wouldn't care. But I have a third of an acre I use to play with my children and dog in, host gatherings, etc. Hard to enjoy a BBQ with bees flying everywhere.

Oh please. As I said upthread you can do it without chemicals, and if you plant flowers attractive to pollinators elsewhere, it's really a wash.

No, no. It's all the rage to have a bunch of broad-leaf weeds that spread and kill your grass.

You seem insane. You're threatening to spray weed killer in a child's face to retaliate for ... interfering with your sod? Get a @#$king grip.

Talk about twisting words... Chemicals are airborne stupid.
