No advice OP about growing them but good for you! They're really important for bees. I honestly didn't realize that people still have the retrograde attitude against dandelions these days.
The problem is that they take over. No one wants a lawn full of dandelions. My husband and I do our own organic lawn care and have a Garden Weasel style tool to get rid of dandelions, and we aerate and re-seed twice a year to help keep them at bay. I've also had success using a mix of white vinegar/lemon oil/dish soap and water sprayed on them on sunny days. We use the pre-emergent corn gluten which actually works quite well overall. I have tons of garden beds devoted to pollinators but I don't want them flying all over my lawn where my children and dog play and can get stung. If I had 50 sq ft maybe I wouldn't care. But I have a third of an acre I use to play with my children and dog in, host gatherings, etc. Hard to enjoy a BBQ with bees flying everywhere.
