I know you're a Sanders supporter and I know your intentions. You're engaging in false equivalences, and dishonesty of that kind keeps us from looking squarely at what Trump is doing. This man is running a campaign that emboldens people to do things like this: http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/apr/28/julia-ioffe-journalist-melania-trump-antisemitic-abuse?CMP=share_btn_tw Let's be honest about it. |

The blaming a candidate for their worst supporters doesn't fly with me after the invented BernieBro fiasco or the fake bullshit stories out of the Nevada Primary.
Or when the worst offenses of people not even involved with the Occupy movement were used to discredit the entire message. Should HRC be responsible for the guy in the Trump shirt who got his face bashed in. That is actual violence not just mean words to a journalist. |
|
Just to add: the racist stuff would maybe fly if it weren't coming from HRC supporters.
You don't get to be a racist and then take the high ground against racists with any shred of honesty. |
The topic of this thread is Trump and I -- not a HRC supporter -- was one of the primary responders. You are fighting the wrong battle at the moment and hijacking this thread. |
This. He certainly talks like one. |
You don't seem to understand the bigger picture here, or realize that many people who support different candidates, see this and are calling it out. Many Republicans, Sanders supporters and Clinton supporters agree that we need to stand against this. But some reason you're letting your hostility toward Clinton override your common sense. |
I agree with this statement. I will add that when a person knowingly says things, creates an environment, or supports policies that have a racist effect (not sure how to term that), I don't think they should get a free pass to step back and claim that they are not racist. |
|
I am saying that Clinton ran a racist campaign in 2008. Her supporters then called Sanders supporters racist in 2016.
Based on this experience of mine, I am taking it with a grain of salt if they now call Trump a racist. In 2008 would anyone think Trump is anything but a dumb oaf? If Sanders became a racist by daring to oppose Hillary, I believe the same can be used to tarnish others. Jeff, I don't think that is a hijack. |
I'm not Jeff, but to me it's an obvious hijack, and a bizarre one. |
Okay, please ignore any claims by HRC supporters that Trump is a racist. There are a thousand other reasons to oppose Trump. Moreover, I am not a HRC supporter and I am saying that Trump is appealing to racism as a campaign tactic. Are you going to take what Sanders supporters say with a grain of salt as well? Your attempt to minimize Trump's racist discourse is mind-blowing. |
NP, no it's not. It's an opinion relevant to the question "Is Trump racist?". Apparently you all just want a yes or no answer. That's hardly a genuine discussion revolved around the multitude of reasons that are at play with regard to this loaded question. |
I'll just agree with Jeff, then. Your attempt to dismiss Trump's actions is really mind-blowing. |
|
I don't think he's racist. He's anti illegal immigration. He's fearful of letting terrorists into America by allowing Muslims to immigrate without screening. If you think those policies are racist, then yes, you'll think he's racist.
He has dated an AAs, so that says something. |
I don't think either of those are racist. Every speech he has given this campaign is on YouTube so I would be interested in hearing one quotation as bad as those in Clinton's history. Not a call for who he is appealing to or who he didn't disavow quickly enough but a specific statement. |
Your Clinton Derangement Syndrome is palpable. You are inadvertently reinforcing narratives about a particular strain of Sanders supporters, too. I will point this out, because the majority of Democrats who support Bernie are not like this. |
