Why do I always get my period right before a vacation?

OP, I have been irregular all my life except for the last couple of years. I have a vacation in 2 weeks. So guess what, yup, my period is late again. I am expecting it to show up again on my vacation. Oh well.

I got mine the morning of our wedding. Awesome honeymoon right? And it was irregular on a usually regular cycle.

I know at least 2 friends who say the same thing.

It's like nature freaks out and wants to mess with us.

are you subconsciously scheduling all your vacations at about the same time of the month?

My period used to come every 4th Wednesday by 4:00 p.m. So I could count ahead on the calendar to know if I'd be on my period on vacation or not. (not that I really cared either way.)

p.s. get a mirena. no periods ever. awesome!

If you have to schedule trips months in advance, it's a challenge to monitor if your period will come that day or not. For some people, it's not exactly on the same day. For most, it's +/- 2-4 days. That's a really an entire week. So you are blacking out 2 weeks of the month.

And you also have to see your partner's work schedule and your work schedule. Many people can't just go take a vacation within a week of asking for leave.
And if it includes more than 1 other person, like the family and relatives, that gets harder to adjust to.

It's too bad we have to be on something to control our periods.

Mine has done this for the past couple of years. I get it on the worst possible days - my birthday, Christmas, on the day I need to drive 14 hours straight through, first day it's warm enough to use the pool, etc. I've gotten it on the last 3 out of 4 vacations that we've had.

It is bizarre and hateful timing. Hang in there.

How about Implanon, which is an implant in your arm? I never got a period (or very very light), lasts 2-3 years.

I've never done it but have heard that you can douche the first day or two and essentially end your period by getting it all out at once. Perhaps someone else can chime in on this.

Yea, I don't understand why sex is out. I definitely skip it for day 1, but after that, it's fine. I'm actually oddly more horny on my period and of course my DH will take it any way he can get it..

This sucks, OP, seems to happen to me too. I posted on here once about trying to get my period to arrive a little early, since it was due the first day of vacation. Got advice to try large amounts of vitamin c -- apparently it can make your uterus contract? Well, I tried it and it worked. Of course, correlation does not equal causation, so maybe it was just due to come anyway. Also, the big doses also made me a little sick with frequent trips to the bathroom for a day. But I was glad it worked out! Maybe try that?

I always get cold sores before vacation due to the stress of getting ready. I have started taking Lysine 3x/day for a week prior to leaving and it has worked magic.
