Why do I always get my period right before a vacation?

It never fails. I had TSS in the past so can't wear tampons. Going to a warm-weather destination alone with DH next week for the first time in a long time. Period should be arriving soon. No imminent signs. It will probably arrive the day we leave for vacation. Goodbye swimming and sex.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Yes, mine decided to come early once - the day we left for our honeymoon to Hawaii. That was such a joyful island hopping adventure.

Are you on the pill? If so, can't you adjust the timing so your period comes before or after? I used to do this all the time around vacations, our wedding, etc., even when I had trial opening weeks.

Do people still do this? I'm old now, post-kids, on the mirena post kids and haven't had a period in years.

Can you use a menstrual cup? Won't really take care of the sex part, but at least you could go swimming....

Mine always appears at the end of a week long holiday meaning I am an uncontrollable bitch for the week we are on vacation because of PMS. Sometimes being female sucks.

Always get a holiday giant face pimple/cold sore. Doctor says it's stress related.

I thought it was just me. Last time we went on vacation, my period was purposely late by like a week!

I just use tampons and go swimming anyway. Of course I look like a beached whale with all the water retention, but nothing cures cramps better than cold beer by poolside!

IMHO the cup is just too gross to consider.

Try going on the pill continuously (no off-week) so that you don't get your period. I haven't done it in years, so I can't remember the details (has to be a certain type of pill). Not much help, maybe some body else knows?

OP here. I'm not on the pill, so I can't play around with that. I've tried a few and the side effects haven't been worth it. Not like I've needed it over the past few years. I was hoping to use this vacation as a way to get back to that part of our relationship! I've had my period on literally every vacation or weekend trip we've been on since I can remember. At least this time I won't be sharing one bathroom with 4 other people like a few months ago when we stayed with my SIL in her NYC apartment.

Happens to me too. Will probably happen more often now that perimenopause is making it come more often.

Do you track your periods? If you have flexibility with your vacations, could you schedule a vacation for some other week?

The same thing happens to me. I was dismayed to learn my period would come during our spring break trip to Mexico. I read so much about it here, I bought the Diva Cup. Best decision I made! It allowed me to swim and just have more freedom on that trip.

When are you leaving? Get the Diva Cup NOW. Still bring pads and stuff but give the Diva Cup a try.

Get thee a Diva cup! Stop letting your silly period ruin your vacations. Get your DH a little drunk, put a towel down, and have sex. It'll be fine, I promise. Then everyone takes a shower.

Not to be snarky but why did you schedule your vacation for your period week? Unless you are totally irregular it's pretty easy to figure out when it'll happen.
