Why do I always get my period right before a vacation?

Does this happen to anyone else?

wow, i've never actually heard of someone getting tss

Me either and I work at Fairfax hospital as a nurse. There are approx 100 cases a year in the US and only half of those are from tampons. We pretty much have a statistical anomaly, more rare than a Powerball winner.

For me, I almost always schedule my vacation DURING my period. Not on purpose. I plan the trip and then realize how the dates line up. It will happen next month but hopefully I'll get a couple of days in the clear.

Boy, do I hear you on this topic, OP!

For real? I am intrigued.

No, that's completely untrue. Douching does not go through your cervix into your uterus to flush it out -- that's where the mucus, blood, and lining are sloughing off. Plus, it's extremely unhealthy for your vaginal flora to douche. Terrible, terrible idea.

Okay, so OP had TSS, but seriously, other PPs. JUST USE TAMPONS.

And OP, Diva cups are safe even if you had TSS. They are silicone and can't be impregnated with bacteria.

15:33 - yes, I posted that, and yes I love love love my Diva cup. It's 1000x better than tampons. Seriously. Just try it. The first time you'll probably be grossed out by seeing all the blood at once when you empty the cup into the toilet (well, I was, anyway) but now pads and tampons are far more disgusting to me.

I find Diva cups just so much more convenient for all types of physical activity (and non-activity!)

Yay me for being a statistical anomaly!

I wish I could plan around my period, and I do track it, but my cycle ranges anywhere from 30-36 days. We planned this trip back in November and things looked good back then but then I had a really weird cycle in December where I got my period on day 19, so now I'm totally off track long range.

I'll check with my doctor about the diva cup, but honestly the thought of it grosses me out. But it may be preferable to feeling annoyed so I'll check into it.

Not op, but I'll answer this because it seems to happen to me too.

Say the vacation is scheduled, you're due to get your period the week before. Alright. Then it will be the *odd* time that your 5 week cycle will hit...and you always have 4 weeks. Like my body is trying to sabotage me!!!

Or I have a short vacation planned, period is going to come afterward, and then, like magic it hits the day before the vacation. And never ever ever do I have short cycles.

Both of these things have happened to me (twice on the first scenario, at least once in the second).

I posted on the first page about diva Cup. Just do it. The worst that will happen is you are out $27 because you don't like it. Just bring pads just in case.

I was oddly fascinated with seeing all my blood in the thing. My period decided to come a day early while on vacation. We booked an excursion for that day since I was expecting to get period the next day. And it was a heavy day (empty Diva Cup every two hours sort of day).

I was able to swim on that excursion and even managed the mess.

Why can't you have sex when you have your period?

Man here. Good question.

I'll take this one. First of all, it just really grosses some people out. When I was younger with casual boyfriends I would NEVER. However, even now that I'm married and will do it, that's only at day 3-4 on. Day 1 and 2 are way too miserable and heavy to even consider it.
