Accents - which do you love and hate?

Hate: uneducated southern (Honey BooBoo), poor urban/gangsta type speech patterns, rural Carolina, Bronx, French

Despise: white trailer park version of gansta type speech

Ooof, the "accents" in Steel Magnolias were theater dialects and were terrible! As someone from the south, the accents made me cringe. I remember Diane Keaton's southern accent in "Crimes of the Heart" was so bad in the trailer that I refused to see the movie.

I have a friend from South Africa and her accent is just SO lovely. It's light and lilts and sounds so elegant.

I am fascinated by Boston accents. Can't say I love them but they just dazzle me with how... Boston they are.

Really can't take your strong Brooklyn/New Jersey accent. So rough and ugly. Same for Wisconsin. Watching Making a Murderer was a struggle sometimes. "Yeah."

I'm from Georgia and what always weirded me out was how bad Julia Roberts' accent is in Steel Magnolias... AND SHE IS FROM GEORGIA!

I love New Zealand accent. Dislike Australian -- sounds harsher to me.

Dislike Indian and German since they're hard for me to understand.

Like English. Not so much northern England/Scotland/Ireland.

Like mid-South (Tennessee), dislike deep south (Alabama). Like Midwest. Despite Baaahhstin.

Why is it okay to say you hate the accents of people from certain regions? What else would it be okay to say you hate about a person based on the part of the world that they are from?

If you know anything about acting classes, you'll know one of the first things they have you do is walk across the room. All of a sudden it's really hard to "act" like you're walking. More than half the people in the class will trip at this acting exercise. So my guess, based on that, Is that Julia tried to "act" with a Georgia accent, rather than just ... speaking as if she was home.

I HAAAAAAATE that Miami Hispanic accent. I lived in Miami for five years and noticed that all the smart Hispanics I met - male or female - got rid of their accents.

Knew someone from a prominent family in New Orleans. She was not from there but adopted a fake 'Naahh Lens' accent. It was so grating to hear.
