at home fitness or training to build strength?

I believe HITT or Tabata is the best short workout routine. I do a four minute one everyday.

I have been using this body weight training program with some success.

Physique 57. Expensive but worth it.

Fitness Blender online is awesome. It's free and you can search by time, level and what you want (cardio, strength, etc).

You don't need to do a long workout routine every day.

Nerd Fitness Beginner Bodyweight workout. Start there. Men's Health Spartacus Workout is great too.

OP said she wants to build strength. HIIT won't do that.

Kettlebells. And you don't need a trainer. Get a 15lb kettlebell and start with Bodyfit by Amy on you tube. 25 min a day.

Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide. Ignore the gimmicky name- it's 30 minutes of intense plyo 3x a week. I just started week 4 and already see upper abs popping out and strength gains (couldn't do a sit up without anchoring feet the first week, now can do them easy peasy).

I love kettlebells but do not recommend starting at home. Form is really important. Start with a trainer and master the moves, then you can do them at home.

After kids, I got back into fitness and building strength (not really haven't done much strength training before) by doing home videos with hand weights. Jillian Michaels has some good ones, and I also really like Denise Austin videos. She has some that are "kettlebell inspired", some movements using handweights that borrow from kettlebell moves.

How about the Scientific 7-Minute Workout? seems right up your alley. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/05/09/the-scientific-7-minute-workout/

I have had this bookmarked forever but haven't actually done it I think there's an app, too.

I agree with the kettle bell recommendation. There are some good videos out there.

It's old, but I love Chalean Extreme. It's my fall back strength workout, and has been for years. Offers options for bands or weights. Workouts are pretty short (35 min) and focus on lifting heavy to failure. I always get super quick results.

My failure to stick with it year after year is due to relocating and the fact my workout room keeps changing due to renos, and NOT due to the quality or fun-ness of the workout.

Damn, maybe I'll crack it out again tomorrow.

I do like the 30 day shred! Decent mix of cardio and strength. I add an extra ten minutes with heavier weights on my own, plus an extra 15-20 mins cardio.
