I think the pp who said it was the challenge with OCD has got it right.

I'm in my late 40s, in fantastic shape and do all kinds of exercise too. But both of my parents were diagnosed with heart disease in their early 50s and my father died of a heart attack at 54, so I'm high-risk for heart disease and I do everything I can to keep my heart healthy. That includes shoveling in small doses.

My husband, who takes pride in his sloth, shoveled twice last night and was contemplating 10pm and 1am touchups until I pointed out that the blowing would make it pointless. He usually spends weekends on the couch but the snow brings out his OCD. Plus we are convinced we'll lose power and want to be able to get out of the house (already have the hotel booked.)

It's a little silly but OTOH we're in emergency conditions - if some pointless shoveling makes the guy feel more in control of his fate, more power to him - I"ll send him my address!

And with all this specific info, someone is going to figure out who he is and tell him someone is judging him on the internets!!

Let me guess OP, you won't be shoveling one bit, and therefore, you don't get what he was doing was smart. The thundersnow hit overnight, and the snow built up very quick.

Bless you.

Yep, We have a young retiree brigade on my court who practically race each other to shovel first, take in their garbage cans first, etc. One of them even sweeps the street. They are basically batshit crazy.

He's in good company. Lots of people, including us, were out doing a late shoveling and headed out again first thing to do another. The snow is heavy and shoveling 2+ feet of it is not something we want to do in one go.

I don't see how his shoveling at 11/12 and again after 6 means he was shoveling all night.

If I was home, I would have been shoveling too!

Which is how they were able to retire early. Drive and determination

Actually they were all federal employees. Thanks for playing.

+1. It's also much safer if you are someone who is at an increased risk for a heart attack (such as, perhaps, a man old enough for retirement). You want smaller, lighter loads to take the stress off your heart.

Exactly. He's smart. Sorry he woke you all up. He should have limited it to more tolerable hours. But multiple shovelings is the way to go. Unless you have a back of steel.

Some people also have trouble sleeping when it snows. I need dark and street noises. It was bright (because of streetlights reflecting off the snow) and silent. I did not shovel --we're apartment dwellers, but I did get up and start a new novel.

You're complaining about this? These are good neighbors.
