Pregnant teacher on school trip

And if the kid were 8. A HIGH SCHOOLER. IN 7 MONTHS.

Well, I figured I'd wait until after school got back. That should give her plenty of time.

I never said I was panicking. Y'all are certainly a bunch of judgmental people. It's a wonder anyone asks a question on this forum at all.

What is my specific concern? Well, that I spent $2k on this already and it's non refundable and non transferable. It's not associated with the school in ANY WAY (other than a teacher from the school organized it), so I have no expectation that another teacher would just "step in". Seems like 3 months would be PLENTY of time to have an alternate plan in place and that she has had enough time to consider that since her due date is day 2 of the trip. This is a public school, not all students come from well-off homes, I'd think whoever the new chaperones are going to be will need time to pull together the funds for it. The teacher told us as a group that she and her husband had been saving for it for 6 months previous to even proposing the trip. ($2k for students, $2500 for adults - the cost of double room vs quad being the difference, plus food, souvenirs, transportation to the airport 2 hours away etc) 11 students are signed up. 3 are siblings. The more thought I put into this, the more I realize how inconsiderate it has been of them not to bring it to the group earlier.

The teacher violated her trust by getting pregnant and not notifying her before confirming to a family member on FB that she is indeed pregnant.

Now with only 6 months to go before the trip, OP feels that the teacher showed a lack of concern for her students because she was not personally informed of the teacher's pregnancy and she is further frustrated by the fact the no replacement chaperones have been named.

$2k sounds like a ripoff, we did something similar in high school for trips to Italy and Costa Rica for ~$2k per student.

I opened this thread hoping for a similar story. I am disappointed.

I don't understand. The trip is not associated with the school? Then why are teachers taking students on a trip?

OP, take a Xanax.

OP, your child is in high school. The trip is ages away. And they aren't going to let some random yahoo chaperone. It'll be fine.

If you don't hear anything in the next 3 months, then message the teacher.

(Your title is misleading--it's not a school trip. Next time, consider all the possible scenarios when a friend/acquaintance/teacher offers to escort your high schoolers on an out-of-town trip that is not sponsored or organized by the school.)

People like 0P exactly why I would never want to be a teacher.

Yes, it was very inconsiderate of her to get pregnant when there was a trip she was supposed to chaperone. How could she! I sympathize completely, OP.

(Actually, I don't.)

If she had an emergency appendectomy or some kind of accident the day before the trip a substitute would have been needed or the trip would have been cancelled.

At least with a pregnancy she has plenty of notice that she is going to have a baby and plenty of time to get a suitable replacement. It's odd that you are making her private health news all about you and your kid. If having a substitute would make this trip a no go for you - you should really have not signed your daughter up for it.

I agree with PP, you need to get over yourself.

+1 Gain some perspective here, OP.

Why would you agree to an expensive trip where you barely know the teacher and it is not school sponsored?

You realize she's barely out of her first trimester, if she is at all? Hard to believe youre a mother.
