Field trip chaperones can find residency cheaters

Wow. As a DC tax payer and public school parent I am of course against frausters. But this kind of vigilante approach towards innocent children....sad OP, really quite sad.

This argument always ends up going down this road:

"Residency cheating is wrong! Residency cheaters are dishonest freeloaders who should be turned in!"

"But the kids aren't doing anything wrong!"

"Their parents should've thought of that before they lied!"

OP, if anyone on a field trip with my daughter presses her for information about where she lives, I'm going to be reporting that person to the school administration. Can you not think of other circumstances in which you questioning a child in this manner would be alarming??

I would never ask a child where they live, not would I report a child who told me where they live. But I did actually have a PK3er tell me they lived in Maryland when we were on a field trip bus to Baltimore. I changed the subject quickly, but I feel bad for the kids who get caught up in the parents' lies.

Don't feel bad or assume parents are lying. You had a 3 year old tell you they live in Maryland. Maybe it was Maryland that day and tomorrow it's DC with mom.

Kids tell all sorts of things at school like the special friend Mommy has who only comes over while Daddy is at work. We teachers don't share that secret either.
