Exactly. What gun rights people miss is that preserving freedom is not just about a bunch of random people owning guns. What's far more important is social organization and the mobilization of resources and control over institutions. Obviously firepower could play a role but what would be better? A couple of your neighbors running out into the street to shoot in whatever direction they thought best or a unit of trained, experienced, and equipped combatants who knew how to work together and follow orders?

"Guns rights" people know that "What's far more important is social organization and the mobilization of resources and control over institutions," (hence the NRA), The Revolutionary War made all that very clear and the Bill of Rights is supposed to ensure that the people can organize and mobilize themselves. Carson isn't an idiot just because he believes gun ownership is part of these freedoms.

No the NRA is about selling guns. Carson is crazy. I can not believe how the liberals go crazy about Trump but give this nut a pass. The only if the Jews had guns they would not have been killed is a bunch of crap and historically false. Look at the uprising in the ghettos of Warsaw. They were armed to the teeth with small arms. The German army crushed and killed them with no problem.

What? The U.S. was dragged into WW2 kicking and screaming. It did not want to be involved until it was basically forced. Don't pretend like the 2nd Amendment had anything to do with U.S. victory.

No, I'm not saying the 2nd amendment had anything to do with US involvement in WWII. I'm saying a country willing (kicking and screaming, but willing) to go in and fight stopped fascism. And people who give their rights away -- little by little -- make themselves susceptible to fascism.

The "Nazi Gun Control" theory is a complete lie. The German laws passed in 1938 essentially DE-regulated many aspects of gun ownership and gun transfers. The Treaty of Versailles referred to above was in 1919 and had nothing to do with Nazisim or the German people "willingly voting to give up their guns," it was a function of the terms of surrender after WWI. Gun laws under Hitler were actually LOOSER than they were prior to 1938.

Furthermore, the notion that mere fact of gun ownership can prevent genocide or that gun control is associated with genocide is utterly ludicrous. Just look at the genocides in recent history:

The Sudanese genocide in Darfur - they had guns, it didn't happen because of "gun control"

The Bosnian genocide in Srebenica - they had guns, it didn't happen because of "gun control"

The Rwandan genocide - they had guns, it didn't happen because of "gun control"

Carson does not know history, and neither does Wayne LaPierre, who by all accounts appears to be the originator of this big lie about Nazi gun control. And frankly both of them come across as a bit unhinged with this stuff.
