Clearly you've never heard a Brit say Isla.

We chose Isla over Ayla, mainly due to our shared Scottish heritage. No regrets here - I think both ways are beautiful. Mind you, both names are easily mispronounced but a correction here and there won't hurt anyone!

I have , but A. OP didn't say she lives in the UK, and B. It still sounds ugly.

Um, wasn't directing the Brit comment at OP, smarty pants.

I know an Aisla. I think that's a pretty spelling. Ayla would be mispronounced a lot.

Go with what you prefer. It's great you as your husband agree.

Face it you are old. Your reference is obscure.

I think Ayla makes more sense for this country. If you spell it with an "I" you'll be getting Iz-la.

I'm 35 and would pronounce Ayla like Clan of the Cave Bear.

I would go with Isla. Less confusion and much prettier I think.

Anyone who speaks Spanish would pronounce Isla like the Spanish word for island. Unless you are Scottish go with Ayla

I'm honestly completely confused by this whole thread. I have no idea what anyone is talking about. I would say Isla like the Spanish word for island (as the PP pointed out), and I would say Ayla like "eye-la." Are either of these the correct pronunciation?

+1 right down to the age and Clan of the Cave Bear reference.
