Fairfax County School Board Votes to Teach 7th Graders about 'Gender Identy'

Anonymous
Mom of seventh grader here.

Yes, Garza sent out an email that parents can opt a student out of FLE. However the subject is now included in graded classes and supposedly we, as parents, are unable to opt out a student.

We were lied to by Garza. This was sneaky and underhanded.

Spare us and go homeschool your snowflakes, if you're so put out. Garza is doing a very good job. No other large school district in the country comes close to being as good as FCPS.

Seriously? Is this a troll?

To the initial question, it will probably help things if it does anything at all (most likely scenario is that it has no affect.) Liberals tend to opt for DC and MD over backwards VA so this is a plus.

The difference is that the superintendent sent an email to all parent LYING. Then the school board, a month later, did exactly what she said was not happening. Parents assumed that their superintendent was telling the truth and not that she was flat out lying.

That is a HUGE issue, no matter how you feel about the whole transgendered issue.

They flat out lying by Garza infuriates me. It is wrong. It is unethical.

Nope. Not a troll. OP is legit.

School board did this the first Wednesday of summer vacation.

So you can't opt out of tranny and gay teachings?

Rather than repeating what the christian conservatives spout, read what happened. You can opt out of most of it. Of course the level is in the detail, but opt out is an option.

Now, as someone who watched at the proceedings (and was in favor of the changes), the saddest part was a 15 yo boy who basically said that learning about homosexuality allows him to have bad thoughts -- it confuses him. This is why we need it. The kid is probably gay and is troubled by it. He would be much better off to learn that his orientation is acceptable. (of course, his parents will throw him out and condemn him to hell).

The vote in June was the culmination of several months of public comments. It was a topic throughout the spring. It was not spring at the last moment. There were several periods for public comment. I am sorry if you were not paying attention.

It is you who are not paying attention. Parents were told at that time that students could opt out of the lessons, and now it appears they cannot.

Luckily, you don't have to send your kids to public school. If you want to teach them your prejudiced beliefs, you can do so in your home by homeschooling or you can pay a private school to do it for you.

And I don't see what the lie was. You can opt out. (Sadly, since school is clearly the only place that will dispute your BS.) What is the issue?

Are you reading? They can opt out almost entirely. If you want your kids to never hear words that don't align with your conservative beliefs, public school is not for you. To raise your child in a bubble you really need to homeschool.

How dare you call other people's beliefs "prejudiced" just because they don't agree with you. I have to think you are 100% wrong in your "beliefs" (which is all they are) that transgenderism is normal, but I would never call you prejudiced.

A gullible Kool-aid drinker, perhaps, but never prejudice.

The only Kool aid drinkers are you Bible thumpers. Pot, meet kettle.

No one wants to hear they are prejudiced but your strong objection to your kids learning about people who are different from them, who in no way affect or harm your kids or anyone else, proves you are. So basically, transgender kids should have to continue to be shamed, bullied, and told they aren't normal just so your precious snowflake doesn't hear something you don't like because you are selfish and closed minded? Ooook. Please do everyone a favor and remove your doomed children from these tyrant schools before the normal rubs off on them.
