Who's sending their child to school (DCPS) tomorrow?

I agree with the school is school sentiment which is why I'm so dismayed that classrooms are packed up and have been packed up for several days now. My 3rd grader has even been helping to pack up as part of the school day.

It's supposed to be an instructional day. Why don't the teachers have some days in their contract to pack up their classrooms once kids have left?

I'm sending my pk'r so he can say goodbye to his friends and teacher.

But I am not making him wear his uniform.

Sending our child. Teachers at our little School are still instructing at our school. Today the kids are teleconferencing with a school in Brazil and having a virtual end of year celebration. Teachers are in next week for 15-16 curriculum and lesson planning. The HoS calls this 'Reflection Week'. They pack up during that week.

My K student has had the same situation, except rather the lead teacher or assistant has been out every day as well. It's shameful.

The same is happening at my daughter's charter, though it's not the school's fault - they are starting renovations, and the teachers have been told they have to be all packed up by the end of the day today. They're more irritated about it than anyone - they'd love to be able to come in and leisurely pack up next week, rather than doing it in the morning and evenings this week (around all the parent-teacher conferences).

No! Wrong attitude. You need to be self righteous about it being a 'school
Day' to hide the fact that you want free babysitting.

Ours got a reprieve from the extra days b/c of construction. (Lafayette) Mine are lollying around the house this a.m. Lovely!

My rising kindergartner is at school today. She was confused because yesterday they had a PK graduation ceremony and she thought that as a result, today she would be going to kindergarten. Instead, she will stay in her 1/2 empty PK class room, where they will clean up, take extra recess and watch movies.

Frankly, I am appreciative that there is school so that we do not have to find a day of childcare before camp starts next week, but I think that given that we knew about these additional days quite some time ago, more effort could be made to finish out the week in a school way. Like, the PK graduation ceremony could be today, instead of yesterday, and yesterday, they could've just had regular Thursday.

Because rules don't apply to you! Great modeling, mom.

And you never, ever take a day off from work ?

Not unless I'm sick. I love my job.

You know, learning how to pack things properly is a skill...that many people actually don't have.

Mine are there as we speak and one didn't even have to go because she's been promoted. They LOVE their school and are happy to have a last day for yearbook signing and saying good-bye to favorite teachers.

Why, in Montessori, they'd just call this a practical life lesson.
