Not a chance ......... Israel's position is totally dominant within Congress and has been for decades and is more so today than it has ever been. It does not matter who the president is and what he/she may wish to do to achieve any semblance of balance in US policy towards Israel and Palestine. As Yitzak Shamir said when he was PM, it really does not matter what any president says because Congress will do what Israel wants - paraphrasing what he said at the time. I am not sure what could happen to change this dynamic. I have been a critic of Obama but the one thing he has done right is not to allow the neo-cons and Israel to push the US into a war with Iran. Israel has not wanted peace ever since Rabin and Barak were prime minister. They will pay lip service to peace and a two state solution but any peace agreement would mean giving up territory and not being able to annex or expropriate more land from the Palestinians and so the present situation will continue. |
Israel is like amy other middle east country with a supposed to be democracy and free speech, in practice a "president for life" type of place |
+1 |
Not until the college students take notice. Change in America begins with the youth. South Africa's anti-apartheid movement and the boycott of companies dealing in South Africa began with Howard University students and Randall Robinson. It spread across the country. We can only hope that university students on another campus will do the same thing against Israel's apartheid. |
I notice you left out Hamas leaders aweful and hateful statements about Jews, Israel, the U.S., etc. but you don't want to publicize that part of the story do you. |
In what way is Hamas newsworthy this week? And would mentioning them make the current government less "aweful?" |
I apologize. I hadn't realized that Hamas was part of the Israeli government. If/when I get around to a thread about the Palestinian government, I'll make sure that I mention Israeli leaders as well. I have noticed in this thread that the pro-Israel folks have trouble staying on topic. They just want to come into this thread and take it over. I guess that sort of thing has become a habit for them. |
Yeah, I figured you wanted to ignore the fact that the palestinians elected a designated terrorist organization as their "leaders" in the form of Hamas - and Hamas is really just a proxi for ISIS/Islamic State. Sorry to interrupt your anti-semitism fest; you can go back to bashing Israel now. |

http://www.globalresearch.ca/un-report-israel-supports-syrian-al-qaeda-rebels-including-the-islamic-state-isis/5429363 Let's talk about the Israelis helping the people who attacked this country on 911. Israel is antiamerican. Anyone who defends Israel is against the USA and our troops. Why don't you support the USA? |
Typical. Nothing in this thread is anti-Semitic. But, when you can't argue the facts I guess that is all you have got. Just for the record, though I am sure you don't care about facts, but Hamas grew out of the Muslim Brotherhood which is in conflict with IS. As the earlier poster pointed out, Israel has been providing assistance to al-Nusra -- the al-Qaida offshoot in Syria. So, Hamas -- which as you said was democratically-elected is aligned with another group that was democratically-elected. Israel, which likes to talk about being a democracy, opposes both of those democratically-elected groups and instead provides assistance to an al-Qaida affiliate. But, of course, I am an anti-Semite for pointing that out. |
Yes, right wing freak government. And the quoted comments are counterproductive. |
Jeff's first source, the EI? Take a look at at the Twitter feeds of the founder and an EI colleague after those three Israeli boys were kidnapped (and later murdered). Good LORD! http://www.algemeiner.com/2014/06/15/supporting-terrorism-and-bigotry-at-the-electronic-intifada/ |
What is your point? Do you think the report to which I linked is wrong? Okay, set that one aside. What about the other two? What is your opinion of these ministers? Do you agree with the quoted remarks? Do you want to engage in discussion of the topic of this thread or just try to deflect it? |
Given your first source, your mindset is clear |
Apparently, your mindset is clear as well. You are determined not to have a discussion but just deflect from the topic. |
