Not a chance ......... Israel's position is totally dominant within Congress and has been for decades and is more so today than it has ever been. It does not matter who the president is and what he/she may wish to do to achieve any semblance of balance in US policy towards Israel and Palestine.

As Yitzak Shamir said when he was PM, it really does not matter what any president says because Congress will do what Israel wants - paraphrasing what he said at the time.

I am not sure what could happen to change this dynamic. I have been a critic of Obama but the one thing he has done right is not to allow the neo-cons and Israel to push the US into a war with Iran.

Israel has not wanted peace ever since Rabin and Barak were prime minister. They will pay lip service to peace and a two state solution but any peace agreement would mean giving up territory and not being able to annex or expropriate more land from the Palestinians and so the present situation will continue.[/quote]
