In response to 11:48 and 11:52 (which are by different posters), I think that it is important to mention that the while some of the remarks I quoted might be construed as supporting the view that Jews are the chosen people, the quotes are also consistent with other extreme nationalisms. Israelis, Israel's supporters, and Israel's opponents are frequently guilty of blurring the distinction between Jews and Israelis. But, since many Jews are strong opponents of Israel's occupation policy, I think it is safe to assume that it is the nationalistic aspect (i.e. Israeli nationalism over Judaism) that is important. As such, being a "chosen people" (as opposed to "the" chosen people) is a normal aspect of extreme nationalism and is therefore better analyzed in nationalistic terms rather than religious.
The same point goes for 11:52 as well. It is true that many Israelis have adopted language reminiscent of that in anti-Semitic tracts. But, it is also true that many Israelis and Jews outside Israel are vigorous opponents of such ideas. We want to be careful not to have too broad of a brush when discussing this topic. |
Op why don't you try focusing on something you're good at - like running a Mom's forum - instead of posting these tiresome reminders of how much you hate Israel and Netanyahu in particular? |
Right. Because it's wrong to post about the results of the Israeli election and the composition of the new government. It's SO TIRESOME to know anything about the country we pay billions of dollars to support each year. |
Oh, you want to be the DCUM moderator now? You will find that as moderator you don't have time to read every thread. So, in preparation for moderator duty, you can begin practicing skipping threads by passing over this one. |
well, considering that this is a place where the Pentagon had to publicly state that the upcoming military training exercises planned for the summer are actually just military exercises for training purposes, and not a grand plan to take over the country and start a dictatorship, and the governor of a major state stated that the national guard will "watch over" the military during the exercises just in case, I guess the truth will take a long while before it sinks. |
When a President acts like this one does, people are right to question. |
By that you mean not paying billions to the Texas state economy in no bid contracts? Or because he's doing nothing to prop up the price of oil for them? |
I mean constantly race baiting and militarizing the police |
Hold it, are you suggesting that there is a rational justification for the fear that Obama is going to invade Texas? |
I am suggesting that the President has acted in such a lawless manner, that people aren't thinking rationally. Do I think he will 'invade Texas'? No. Do I believe he wants to federalize the police and is using race division to create chaos in our cities as an excuse to do so? Yes. |
Okay, we have a certified whack job among us. |
It wasn't me who made the speech about a civilian army the size of the current army. It also wasn't me that recently stated that the Feds need to 'retrain' the state and local police. It also wasn't me that has come out time and again to defend black victims, especially ones that turn out to have been previous lawbreakers, but when a black officer in MS gets assassinated, stays pretty much mum. |
Here is the report that article mentions: http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/pdf/taskforce/Interim_TF_Report.pdf Can you show me where it says the police should be federalized? |
The federal government is getting more involved with state and local police, yes? Federalization comes in stages. Freedoms are lost a bit at a time, not all at once to avoid complete rebellion. Ask the people of Venezuela. |
