Several of my favorites have been mentioned -- Ottolenghi, Thomas Keller (Bouchon has the MOST amazing onion soup recipe), Smitten Kitchen, Mark Bittman. Lately, I've also been loving Heidi Swanson (Super Natural & everyday), Marcus Samuelsson's Off Duty, Mario Batali's America Farm to Table, Saveur's New Classics, The Gramercy Tavern Cookbook, and Sean Brock's Heritage.


I have a bit of a cookbook "problem."

I agree with many books already posted, and would like to add Fast Fresh and Green, and Eating Local.

Do you guys actually cook from these cookbooks? I have a few if the ones mentioned and while I love looking through them, I never cook from them.

What cookbook do you guys use the most to actually cook from?

I made handful recipes from Plenty and Home-Cooking with Jean-Georges. Also made several recipes from Bouchon Bakery book and very happy with results so far.
Recently, I've been cooking from Bon Appetit back issues.

OP here.. I cook from Momofuku (and Changs blog the Lucky Peach), you just have to really cut down proportions or be ready to freeze.

Anything of Bittman's is great.

As far as what cookbook I cook most from- I actually usually don't follow recipes unless I'm baking. I rely a lot of the folks at the Fresh Loaf for recipes on that. I love to pore over the cookbooks, get an idea and then use most of that to actually cook from.

So, further to the "porn" question..

I JUST got David Leibowitz "My Paris kitchen" and made dinner from it. I can see many hours ahead just reading and flipping through.

Ordered Ottolenghi and Plenty today. Thank you everyone for the ideas.

Yes, I am OP, and I have a cookbook problem. But no one eating dinner at my house has ever complained about that.
