Gliders are so ugly and country- what other options are there?

We got the monte rocking chair. It is a real piece of furniture and costs as so, but it is beautiful enough that it will go on our guest room when we are done with it. And between several kids we are actually stuck with it for a long time

I didn't like the idea of gliders (And they are mostly ugly) so I did not buy one. I try to get kid stuff I don't hate because some of it is always going to be around. My husband sometimes gets annoyed but I love having beautiful kids room and having picked a non pink plastic toy kitchen to go in our real one.

+1000. We used a lazyboy that we already had (well, actually, it's a lazyboy knockoff). Best decision ever. I've never seen a glider that allowed me to sit cross legged it was FREE and now it's big enough to accommodate DH, a 4YO, a dog, and a couple books.
I also never figured out the actual "gliding" motion... if you have a stool, and it glides too, how the heck do you keep the thing moving when your body and feet are both gliding at different rates? The regular rocking motion was easy and comfortable.

We have this one from Serena and Lilly. I really liked their fabric options but they are damn expensive.

However since I had to sleep in the thing for 5 months, it was worth it!

This. gliders are wonderful for rocking the baby to sleep.

I love that Hayes glider but I cant commit to any of their fabric choices. So frustrating!

PP here...funny I could not commit to the size I wanted. When I Hayes came I FREAKED OUT bc its really big! I called the company and begged to exchange it for a smaller one and then changed my mine after they reluctantly said they would, lol. Hormones!!!

We went with the celery jaipur print in a light purple nursery and its amazing. You can order swatches so try that!!!

I got one of the Eames rockers in the DWR sale, I have a sheepskin on it and it's so lovely sitting and nocking up in the nursery. I won't want to get rid of it once she's weaned, it'll go in the reading nook.

All you need is a place to sit that's comfortable for several hours a day. I had two hand me down chairs, one of which gave me flat butt after a half hour--that's not good. Chair does not have to rock, or even be a chair. Couch, bed...

Not OP, but I was thinking of getting this from Ikea. Thoughts?

OMG 9:20 you are funny! I like it bc its big and I am hoping it can grow with the baby. I am not crazy but I totally want to invite myself over to see it lol. We have a small house so everything has to serve a functional purpose too. My brother's gf works there and can get me 50/ off but its still a big purchase risk online. I did order 3 swatches, 2 my husband nixed outright as too Cali. Our house was built in 1924 and baby's room is red, white and blue with vintage airplanes and superheroes.

Does anyone know where you get a glider kit if you buy a regular chair?

9:20 here. We live in a 1960's rancher, lol! Rooms are SOOO small and like you said, everything needs its place and to fit in our house. We live in MD and seriously I would not have a problem if you wanted to come see it, ha. I wished I could have seen an example before we bought and the closest thing that came to it was the PB Grand glider that I saw in store. I got a deal on ours where it was like spend $500 and get $300 off so that covered shipping...ugh. We also got the ottoman but not the moving one.

Your nursery idea sounds adorable! The navy diamond fabric would be perfect

Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be a stylish alternative?

The ones with bare wood and cheap pads are the worst offenders!

who cares, it's a baby's room and a town house. You aren't going to wow people and give them paid tours.

Eh. you don't really need a glider.

We have a wooden rocking chair, which I lined with pillows when the kid was small.

It's good-looking and I like it, but now the kids are bigger, it's kind of a falling hazard -- if a kid climbs on it, they could tip over backward. We have it up near a wall to prevent that.
