Tile countertops

You would offer a lower price on a house because of a stove? When I redid my kitchen I intentionally put in a coil stove, flat top stoves take forever to clean (unless one is fine with them being dirty generally).

Yes, when I buy a house I factor in all the necessary things I need to do to it. So if there are three houses in the same neighborhood at the same price point, I'm going to reduce what I'm willing to pay for the one with the yucky stuff because I have to come up with the cash for new countertops/appliances/wallpaper removal, etc. The odds also are that if there's still a coil stove, there's a million other things that also need updating. Usually very little else has been touched.

WTF? How is a smooth top stove hard to clean? Wet sponge, maybe a little barkeeper's friend and you're good to go. Much better than working around ugly coils. You must be a sloppy cook.

Many of us are sloppy cooks; that's not the slam you think it is. I hate my flat top because the previous owners went bottom of the line and it takes for-freaking-ever to heat up and it's kind of insensitive to different temps meaning that anything really sensitive is out. My next house will have gas or induction. Or an old fashioned coil. Why are you working "around" coils anyway? You know you're supposed to use the coils themselves to cook.

Tile sucks. Sorry OP.
