Tile countertops

Anonymous
I bought a house with a tile kitchen countertop and I'm not a fan of them. Does anyone actually like tile countertops?

I don't think so.

I think they are outdated.

I only believe this to be true because I watch a lot of shows on HGTV + when they show people looking at homes such as House Hunters, etc., the people always express disgust at tile countertops and always remark that they would need to "update" to granite or marble if they purchased that home.

I would rather a thousand times have Formica then tile. Tile is just too hard to clean with the grout lines.

Op here- the grout lines really suck. I wish I had a solid surface without the lines.

No - the builder installed them in my home because they were cheap.
Tile says bathroom floor to me - always!

No

No, they're dreadful. I wouldn't not buy a house because of them, but I would drop my offer as I'd be factoring in mandatory new counters. (Same for electric coil stoves and lots of wallpaper).

OP, how large are your counters? If it's not too big, you should go buy a "remnant" granite. They will fabricate and install. Depending on the size, you can do it for $500.

No one likes them. You can get Formica for less than $1000. They have some decent patterns that look like granite.

I was recently in a store that has a deli. When I walked in, the owner was patching a seam in their formica because a health inspector was coming the next day. She told me she couldn't wait for those counters to be gone and that they were replacing them with . . . tile.

Never eating there again.

You can't get if for that price. We recently looked for a bathroom vanity and it was 1,000 with installation (and this was looking at remnants).

When I was young I rented a 1930s bungalow that had all tile in the kitchen, and I thought it was charming. Very much in character with the house. If I'd owned the house, I wouldn't have changed it.

Here, however, in the house I have now? No, probably not.

Ugh, we have tile in the kitchen. It's impossible to keep it clean. I want to replace it, but we also need to replace the floors and some of the cabinets, so there's no sense in doing the counters until we can afford to do it all.

Does that include installation?

You would offer a lower price on a house because of a stove? When I redid my kitchen I intentionally put in a coil stove, flat top stoves take forever to clean (unless one is fine with them being dirty generally).
