46-spanked once or twice out of sheer desperation. We drove my mother to the brink. Otherwise, we no corporal punishment. We were sent to our rooms, lost privileges, etc. We have spanked a couple of times, and out of the same desperation as my mother did. We have two very headstrong boys and will admit to being pushed to the edge a couple of times. I am not proud of those moments and they will not be repeated. We use loss of privileges, time-outs, and logical consequences.

38 from here. Parents were both well educated professionals (if that matters). We were spanked as young children, by both parents and only with hands. I remember when I was a little older, maybe 7, my dad said he wouldn't spank me anymore. I remember thinking at first, SWEET! I can get away with anything. Then, I think it was that same day, I did something and my dad took away tv for a week or something like that. I thought, Christ, what have I gotten myself into? I'd take a quick seat on the bottom over losing a privilege any day. Dad stayed true to his word and never spanked again. Mom did only a couple of times after that but also stopped. We had our mouths washed out with soap a few times. Not many, but threatened all the time.

This is so weird to me. My mom spanked us but it was a in the moment type of thing - instant reaction when we were really bad. I would never do this to my kid. Sorry you went through that.

Yep I was spanked a few times. Dad would make you turn over and hold still which was the hardest. Honestly for me, spanking worked amazingly well. I would do ANYTHING to avoid a spanking. I only needed a few to remind me.

My siblings and I were spanked, also grew up in the Northeast, and we are around your age OP.

I only remember the spankings, never the reason why I was spanked. I think it did more harm then good.
