Gluten free vegetarian "turkey"

I have to agree. My family was vegetarian for many years, and after the first year or two we have up on the faux turkey. Commercially available ones were just kind of gross, and there are a lot yummier things to make instead. Pp's idea about stuffed acorn squash is a fantastic one. We make a version with quinoa stuffing that is always a hit with herbivores and carnivores alike.

Yes, but think of the poor unicorns. Now manticores, they are not very popular, and I have heard they are delicious as long as you get all the toxins out.

Check Vegetarian times for alternative Thanksgiving main dishes- like stuffed squash, etc.

The Vegetarian Times always has good ideas in their holiday issues. I like stuffed squash and pumpkin for sort of centerpiece-type dishes; I did see a GF stuffing mix (the kind in a box) at Trader Joe's last week, so we might try that.

We had Tufurkey in the past, which we didn't love, and Field Roast, which we loved, but I have a kid who can't do gluten, so that's not a great option any more. When I lived in the UK, nut roast was a popular vegetarian dish at holidays, and it's not difficult to make it gluten free. Here are a few recipes:

They're not the prettiest things, but I think they're delicious, and they're easy to make ahead. Plus, they're great in "leftover" sandwiches with cranberry sauce.

I thought the thread about Toddlers on a Plane was about a new horror movie.

Turns out THIS is the horror movie thread.

Good thing is you won't have to worry about hosting Thanksgiving ever again.

I'm a vegetarian, an don't love fake meat stuff, but this thread is ridiculous. If someone asked "Can I have a good cranberry sauce recipe" would you answer "ew, with all the good sides out there why bother with cranberry sauce?" She didn't ask for a vegetarian main dish or your opinion of fake turkey - she asked for a fake turkey recipe. Save your snark for the first time moms and leave the food board alone.

OP here. Thanks everyone got the great recipes and suggestions. This is DS's first gluten free Thanksgiving. It has been difficult enough for him getting used to being gluten free. He really likes tofurkey and I just wanted to find something else that he can enjoy. I think I'm going to try one of these recipes : )
For the other posters who have only obnoxious comments to make, I find it really stupid that you even bother to click on a post that has to do with being vegetarian. Are you really that bored?

As hard as it is to be gluten free, it is hard to hear that you are keeping your child vegetarian for lifestyle purposes. When you have a medical issue, you should make accommodations, not make things more difficult. Get some turkey for him, it's naturally gluten free, and serve everything else vegetarian.

DS is not being forced to be a vegetarian. You assumed and are incorrect. Worry about your own
