as a former landon parent the reality is not the fantaasy you believe. 80% of the kids do not belong to country clubs. tehre are many hardworkign families who sacrfice to pay tuition and they are not privileged in the least. yes there is a contigent that belong to the clubs but is no where near 80%. You might actually want to tour the schools and see what is really going vs going on your outdated beliefs. |

Landon parent here. Parents from all back rounds. Some I don't have a lot in common with...but, one thing we do have in common. We want the best for our sons. Community centers around that common goal.
I have other kids at other schools... What makes Landon really, really stand out is that I drive into that campus and I know almost everyone I pass on the white rock road... I know their mothers and fathers. I know the teachers who coach my son. I have sat down with all of them. Sometimes in a formal setting and sometimes over BBQ. Headmaster I see every day, sometimes he is seen playing catch with the boys...he retires this year. Expectations are high...morally and academically. The boys that do well ,try not to disappoint. No one expects a finished product what they do expect is that you, Do your best,do it with honor, and do the right thing. Really loving Landon. |

Landon is incredibly diverse. The school notes that about 30% of the kids are racially diverse but based on incoming the new 3rd grade class, I think the numbers may even go higher over time which is wonderful.
Beyond racially diversity - the school literature says 25% of the students receive financial aid of some sort. Based on the parent community I hve met, there seems to be a wide range of ecomonic diversity too. It is definitely not 80% country club set. |

Who "fact checks" school literature? Is that even required?

Have they taught your son how to cheat on the SAT yet? Or how to be a misogynist? |
So tiring. My son is there. We are very happy with the school. It's very rigorous in all areas. I am very confident he will be academically prepared for college. More importantly, character is very much a part of the education. It's a wonderful place and my son is happy to go to school every day. There is an intangible character to many boys schools, Landon for sure, that I think can be really important for boys and their development. You do these kind, hard working, honorable boys a disservice with your remarks. |
| I have a good AA parent friend at Landon, she tells me many in the AA community send there boys to Landon specifically for its diversity and the diversity among the leadership. For boys, it's so great to have so many male teachers and men in other educational leadership positions. |

"Have they taught your son how to cheat on the SAT yet? Or how to be a misogynist? "
Yawn.... this is old news pal. |
"their" had to correct myself |
Have you seen those kids at a sporting event? Misogyny is alive and well on Wilson Lane. |
|
I've attended sporting events across the DC metro region for years, I think every schools sheering section during athletic competition can be somewhat rowdy and out of control at times during major games.
I do recall attending a prep - landon lacrosse game 3 - 4 years ago and the prep student sections were chanting homophobic / anti gay remarks during the game. I understand these are high school kids and some times kids feed off the emotions of the game and mob Mentality can take over during games (this applies to all student sections) . What disgusted me more about this episode during a Prep athletic competition, is there were two prep faculty members standing right next to the prep cheering section and they didn't have "guts" to shush up the Prep crowd when it was pretty obvious to the comment observer they were chanting anti gay remarks. It was rather disappointing to see. |
|
PP: Catholic people have been anti gay for year. look at the number of priest scandals which have been covered up for years.
I believe a decade ago, their was a priest at Prep who was dismissed for lude conduct. |
| Never pay attention to happy Landon parents. You don't want to know them. |
| I remember a few years ago the Prep fans were chanting "Taco Bell" everytime a brown skinned STA basketball player got the ball. The kid was Arab. Nice. |
Ah, yes. When faced with another report of boorish behavior by Landon boys, resort to the, "Well, everybody else does it" defense. Typical deflect and deny. |
