Why do some SAHM wear workout gear all day?

Me, too! Why not just stay in your pjs?!

Because it's comfortable and they don't have to look good for anyone. I have a neighbor who puts in makeup and gets dressed before her husband comes home. I think this is kind of pathetic.

I've recently started doing this since I've upped my physical activity.

I do yoga in the morning, a few spurts of exercise in the middle of the day (run the stairs, do some stretching, etc while waiting on the laundry or when I've got something slow sautéing on the stove, etc) and I've been walking every evening after the kids are in bed.

Workout gear suits my lifestyle, just as business attire may suit yours.

I'm a SAHM and I like the fact that many of them dress like slobs because it makes me feel pretty put together when I wear normal clothes. Which is, you know, just as easy as wearing workout gear.

Pjs are not workout gear.

But yes, why not stay in your pjs? Why does it bother you if other people wear workout gear (or pjs)?

+1 love wearing running shorts all weekend

I wonder about this too. I think they do work out, but maybe don't change immediately. They're probably comfortable.

What's wrong with wanting to look nice for your husband? Better than trying to look good for other people.

Because they're stretchy and my regular clothes are too tight.

They are super comfortable. I like to wear sweats.

I'm probably the mom that she saw! For me, the reason is timing. I have two and a half hours to get everything in hat I need to do. I dress in my workout gear before we leave, do the drop off, get errands out if the way and go for a run/workout right before pickup. I may not look like I worked out but I most definitely did. That's why I wear the fancy workout gear in fact! It looks good even after you workout, especially if I throw on a cute hat and a nice looking fitted workout jacket.

Guess we could ask why do au pairs always wear grungy tees and too short shorts but I get it, it's comfortable. 'Nough said.

I was a PE teacher before becoming a SAH mom so yoga pants were my work clothes. Should I buy jeans to SAH? LOL

Anyway, those who love to wear pretty tops and tight jeans, how do you bend down to play with your kids? How do you run around the park with them if you're in fancy shoes?

My kids are 4 and 3 and for the past 5 years I've had several different reasons to avoid fancy clothes. First spit ups, nursing then the mess and now the comfort for engaging them. Once they're in school full time I think I'll still walk around in "work clothes" because I'll be working LOL

Gotta love how DCUMs react to the smallest meaningless stuff.

Yes, I can see how this could be quite pathetic. However, as a SAHM, I can kind of relate, but I do it for me. I'm sure you're thinking your neighbor does this to pretty herself up for her man, and maybe she does, but maybe it's just to make herself feel human at the end of a long day.

I don't wear workout clothes out (unless I'm going to the gym), but as soon as I'm home, I change in to workout clothes or pj pants. I've done that for years, long before I had kids (I would change as soon as I came home from work). But now that I'm home most often, I find myself in my comfy clothes most of the day, sometimes hair unwashed in a ponytail, usually without makeup. When I worked, spending the day like that was a luxury! But now...even though I like the physical comfort, I start feeling a little blah and frumpy. Sometimes it feels better to put on normal clothes, flat-iron my hair, and put on makeup (I wear such minimal makeup, but at least something to smooth out my tone and reduce the shine). So...I do find myself sometimes getting dressed before my husband comes home (plus, he's out of town a lot). But I do it for me. I feel like around 4:30pm (on the days dh is home), my son is just getting up from his nap, a new period of the day is beginning, I'm pretty much done for the day with playing trains and watching Daniel Tiger because dh and ds will play outside for a while before and after dinner (I may or may not join them). It kind of feels like getting ready to go out for the evening, even though really I'm just having a beer while I make dinner. I don't know how to explain it, but getting dressed at the end of the day is all about making myself feel good.

Not a SAHM, but would totally do this in a heartbeat if I were. And yoga pants and a t-shirt is frequently how I spend the weekends. Because I CAN, FINALLY. The real question is "why not?"

Don't you feel gross after working out? I am 100% in the wear-workout-clothes-all-day camp but I would need fresh workout clothes after actually working out!
