+1. Nice to hear this - as a Muslim-Am woman. While there are terrorist crazies who think they speak for the religion and there are abusers who think they practice the religion correctly, by all accounts the vast majority of the billion Muslims out there are normal; normal professions, normal home lives, normal struggles re finances, raising kids etc. While it only took one post for someone to mention abuse -- you may want to consider that the abuse is "cultural" not religious -- i.e. it isn't pray 5 times a day and then go beat your wife Rather men in certain macho cultures have decided they are the boss of women and can treat them however they wish and they profess their views in the name of religion - just because they profess it doesn't mean it is religion. I also didn't know the Edible Arrangements founder was Muslim. The Khan Academy (the tutoring institution kind of like Kumon) founder is also Muslim. |

I just looked up the Quran online. The 7th line, first paragraph, states:
7. The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (such as the Jews), nor of those who went astray (such as the Christians). Care to enlighten us on this? |
First of all, the parts about the Jews and Christians are your addition. Secondly, how is this any different than statements such as the following from the Bible: The idols speak deceit, diviners see visions that lie; they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep oppressed for lack of a shepherd. (Zechariah 10:2) or This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. (Isaiah 48:17) or Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:7) The idea that a religion is the one way to salvation, or that it's followers are "right" or "chosen" is hardly unique to Islam. |
You do know they are talking about people who worship idols? Superstitions, etc.? |
You do realize this is from the OLD Testament? |
They're talking about people who believe differently from them, just like the Quran is talking about people with different beliefs. |
| Yaaawn. |
Yes, since the PP referenced both Christians and Jews I was careful to choose examples that would be relevant to both religions. This wasn't hard because there were plenty of examples of the concept of "our way is the best/only/chose/Godly way" to choose from. |
Get over yourself. You don't think every holy book in the world puts out there that your own religion is the truth and the rest are not? And more along the lines of this post, do you think your average Muslim -- you know the guy who is middle management at the cable company with the wife who is a high school teacher and their 2.5 kids for whom they are trying to save college tuition -- do you think those people are sitting around reviewing the Quran in their head all day long saying "well the Jews and Christians angered God so I don't think I can take a coffee break with Bob or Steve, God wouldn't like that." As a Muslim American, I get why people are weary of Muslims. But even when given examples by real life Muslims, not just what's said by the media -- I don't get why there is a refusal to accept that most of us are in fact normal and have really ordinary, boring lives just like you. Honestly we're not sitting around in our homes quoting the Quran, just like you aren't quoting the Bible - when you're deciding which couple friend to go out to dinner with; or whether your kid should play rec league soccer this summer or whatever other boring things we all do every day. |
Oh, thanks for that. I was unaware. Now what percentage of muslims do you think abuse women? |
Probably the same percentage of Jews, Christians, Atheists, Buddhist who abuse their women. It's really not rocket science. |

Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, had people killed for insulting him or for criticizing his religion. This included women. Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad.
After Muhammad died, the people who lived with him and knew his religion best immediately fell into war with each other. Fatima, Muhammad's favorite daughter, survived the early years among the unbelievers at Mecca safe and sound, yet died of stress from the persecution of fellow Muslims only six months after her father died. She even miscarried Muhammad's grandchild after having her ribs broken by the man who became the second caliph. Fatima's husband Ali, who was the second convert to Islam and was raised like a son to Muhammad, fought a civil war against an army raised by Aisha, Muhammad's favorite wife - and one whom he had said was a "perfect woman." 10,000 Muslims were killed in a single battle waged less than 25 years after Muhammad's death. Three of the first four Muslim rulers (caliphs) were murdered. All of them were among Muhammad's closest companions. The third caliph was killed by allies of the son of the first (who was murdered by the fifth caliph a few years later, then wrapped in the skin of a dead donkey and burned). The fourth caliph (Ali) was stabbed to death after a bitter dispute with the fifth. The fifth caliph went on to poison one of Muhammad's two favorite grandsons. The other grandson was later beheaded by the sixth caliph. The infighting and power struggles between Muhammad's family members, closest companions and their children only intensified with time. Within 50 short years of Muhammad's death, even the Kaaba, which had stood for centuries under pagan religion, lay in ruins from internal Muslim war... And that's just the fate of those within the house of Islam! |
| All muslims have one thing in common: they are deluded. They have that in common with christians, jews, etc. |
But Islam is the only religion that has to retain its membership by threatening to kill anyone who leaves. This is according to the example set by Muhammad. http://www.usc.edu/org/cmje/religious-texts/hadith/bukhari/052-sbt.php#004.052.260 |
Stop lying. Is your life this miserable? Nothing you said makes sense and is an utter lie, go scratch |
