Do you think that the Mundo Verde's demographics will change because of the move?

OP could have avoid all her issues by living WOTP in JKLMM but she wanted it all including inexpensive housing... now she's complaining about the inconvenience of it all. BOO HOO!!!

My house is EOTP and costs the same as homes WOTP so get over yourself. I value diversity which is why I did not move WOTP.

I don't understand your question, OP. Are you asking if there will continue to be a high number of Columbia Heights/MtP families at MV because you want to be at a school with neighborhood kids? I can understand why you'd like to go to school with neighbors; playdates as well as splitting commuting are much easier. But then why are you asking about high-SES families? It sounds like you don't want to go to MV if too many poor kids start going.

We attend a different HRCS, and it is a little bit of a pain to live 15 minutes from school in one direction and have our kid's friends live 15 minutes in another direction. If we lived much further, it would be tougher to make school events. I also prefer to drop off and pick up myself versus using a parent-run shuttle; I like to chat with other parents and see what is going on at the school.

So, yes, it is much more work to have a sense of community when folks are scattered.

I didn't ask anyone to feel sorry for me. I asked for an opinion regarding a school's future demographics. A few posters were able to focus and provide responses, for which I thank them.

The rest of you are caught up in and projecting your own feelings of inadequacy where you expect little for your tax dollars and anyone who asks a question is seen as entitled so whatever.

You need to get over yourself. Complaining about MV being soooo inconvenient for YOU. So give up your spot. Problem solved.

How does MV moving to Truxton Circle have anything to do with "expect little for your tax dollars"? The new location is more convenient for some of us.

MV is a city-wide school with a tight community. If you refuse to hang out with people that live outside your neighborhood, please do not go!!

Rereading now. OP, you definitely will need to go to playdates and birthday parties east of Georgia Avenue. I still can't tell from your postings if you're worried about geography (yes, you will need to travel) or too many poor kids.

Yikes! Please OP, provide your name so all MV families can avoid you. You sound like such a horrible person.

On another note, just because someone is non FARM, doesn't mean they are high SES. Many working class families that don't qualify for FARM.

Anonymous wrote:OP, I go to another charter school and have to say, this is why people dislike charter school parents.

It is NOT a neighborhood school. Sorry that you may get more Bloomingdale families and have to "gasp" be neighborly with them for your play dates.

If you want a neighborhood school, go to one.

OP here, I don't care if people dislike me as a new charter school parent. I have spent the last three years with one DC in a private and had to trek all over DC and Maryland to play dates and birthday parties and quite frankly, I am sick of it. I have absolutely no more interest in trekking to any location east of Georgia Avenue for play dates and parties. I have no energy to give to this and will not apologize for it. I have friends in Bloomingdale and our kids go to the same school but we NEVER do playdates. On the other hand, I regularly see my friends who are in Mt Pleasant because it is effortless. With my work schedule and my kids school schedule, I will not apologize for wanting one aspect of my life to be easy. Further, I have found that kids tend to develop closer relationships with kids they can hook up with in the blink of an eye for an impromptu outing to a park. That can't happen if the kid lives on the Hill and I am on the other side of D.C. If my in bound DCPS were a viable option, you can bet I would choose it, but at the end of the day it is not and very few people in my neighborhood even send their kids to our in-bound DCPS.
Please do not go to Mundo Verde. If you cant go even ten blocks east of the current location, this is not the right school for you. Your children would miss out on all of the fun activities that all the other kids were allowed to do because of your inflexibility, and it would be completely unfair to them. Don't do this to your kids.

Not a MV parent, but I have to say - on behalf of charter school parents everywhere, please shut up. You are a terrible representation of the very core foundation of charter schools. I am both embarassed of you - and for you.

I'm very glad that you do not speak for the many, many wonderful MV parents that I have met. I don't think I've ever, ever said this before - but I feel sorry for your child.

While I share the collective discomfort with the OP's apparent desire to avoid low income kids, I do feel that statements like the one above amount to bullying. This is an anonymous forum and who knows what OP is like in person, or what she really meant (the desire to send her kid to a school with kids in her neighborhood is not unreasonable, but the concern misplaced if she's sending the child to a highly sought after school in a different part of town) - it's mean spirited to imply that you wish to work out who she is in real life and avoid her. If you're really an MV parent I hope you are able to be open minded about new parents you meet and not judge them based on what you think someone who might go to your school might or might not have written and what they might or might not have meant by it.
