You expect them to response within 24 hours. You've got to get some realistic expectations for a new school...heck for any school at that matter.

Well actually, I wrote them Wednesday evening but I'm saying Thursday because that's when they presumable got it during working hours.

Yeah, I sort of do hope for a response by the end of the week if I send something mid-week. I'm not angry about it, but I have experienced faster communication from other schools. Have also experienced worse communication. Not a huge deal, just noting what I experienced this time.

I hate mothers like you.

Yeah, those parents that are invested in building their school communities really suck. If only we could all be more apathetic like you. Alas, right?

No the entitled parents that think the world should be handed to them on a silver platter. I am at a start up charter and it gets on my last nerve having to see admin put up with these types in addition to the workload of a new school. No matter how many hours is dedicated commit to help the school, there's not enough hours in a day for the school to have a next business day turn around time. Especially if they're in some tiny incubator space.

Entitled? That's a big assumption. Maybe she's just not aware of the workings inside the small office of a start-up school. The fact that she's asking the question in the first place indicates that she's interested in her child's education. That's always a plus in a public school. Just as I would advise her to cut the school some slack, I would advise you to cut her some slack. You're pretty wound up for somebody who is supposedly sympathetic.

This thread is so strange. As a waitlister, I hope to meet the nice ones of you there in September, and the others? Meh.

OP here, totally agree this thread went left somewhere. I was just hoping to hang out at the playground a couple of times this summer before school starts. I like the idea of calling the school and setting up a list serv. Hopefully that will eliminate some of the nasty (unnecessary!) comments. I too hope to meet all of the nice folks.

We are moving into the neighborhood this summer - does anyone think the neighborhood will improve as a result of this school and all the interest from the parents in keeping it safe and accessible for all?

I think the school will benefit from the neighborhood and vice versa-- just a reminder though that this isn't Lee's permanent location. Welcome to Ward 5... see you at the Turkey Thicket playground!

Sorry PP, I don't think it was us! And yes, house hunting sucks badly. The house we bought is technically in Edgewood, a few streets from the school.
I hope the neighborhood is nice and friendly - I am a bit worried about crime too.

You're worries about crime in an urban city? Get out! Crime happens in Georgetown and Chevy Chase too.

I would suggest we wait a few weeks and target some time in July. Lee has given 2 weeks for waitlist acceptance turnarounds... much longer than the 48 hours at other programs. I have a feeling the enrollee list will shift a some in the next 6 weeks or so.

OP here, after some of the nasty comments I decided its best and safest to schedule anything concerning our children on Lee's private listserv. That is being worked on now. This way we don't get every nut from the city at the playground. Please be on the lookout for news and be sure to update your email with the office.

^^smart move OP! best of luck.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Our daughter has been accepted into the youngest group (she's 3) at Lee and we also live in the neighborhood. We've been in touch with the school since they expressed interest in finding a spot (albeit temporary) at Shaed. There is occasionally a lagtime in response in communication, but right now you're talking about 3 staff balancing getting the school off the ground and enrolling their first class. Every interaction with them in person (and via email) has been fantastic, and it'll be worth the patience.

Re: Edgewood. We've had our house here for 7+ years- there have been huge changes in that time, all of them positive. You've moving into a neighborhood with an ever-increasing number of young kids and families, it's relatively quiet, we've got great neighbors (old-timers and new residents) who are friendly, the community group Friends of Edgewood runs a fantastic community garden at the rec center (which has nice spots for kids to play). Regarding the safety factor- I think that it's on par with other parts of the city.

Ultimately, I think the redevelopment of Shaed School by Inspired Teaching and Lee will only do great things for the area!
