Infertility Support and Discussion
OP here: yes it is his insurance but I work as well and contribute 50/50. He's always been all about work and won't even take vacations like normal people. It's a struggle to get him to take his vacation days. I know people are lucky to have jobs but this is seriously our last effort and I need him to be on board 100%. he knows I'm quite hormonal right now. Not to mention so bloated, i look like I'm 8 months pregnant (I even lotioned the tight skin on my abdomen so i don't get stretch marks). Hopefully he'll get his prioritoes straight now that we're going itno day 5 transfer. |

OP- (It's me break through bleeding on BCP's poster) I disagree with the response you got above. IVF is BIG STUFF and going through IVF is emotionally & physically stressful and DH should be putting your procedures in first, esp. when it comes to the final product, the TRANSFER!!! I'm sure his work will understand that his wife is going through a medical procedure and that he needs to take off a few hours or day.
Congrats on your 5 day transfer!!! I think this will work for you! I had a 5 day transfer a couple years ago and now have a 20 month old daughter. Try to relax and stay positive! it makes a big difference!

Stop watching those shows! I made myself stop watching certain things because it gets you crazy! Good luck today-let us know how things go.

Thank you. It's so wonderful to have support right now. Congrats on your daughter? Do you mind me asking whether or not you had a day 3 or day 5 transfer and what your age was at the time. I feel like if I was under 35 then 1 embryo transfer is probably fine but since I'll be turning 39, ie over 35, is 2 recommended and of the 2 what are the chances of twins. I saw on teh SG website they state that the stats show that SET vs 2 ET have equal number of pregnancy but didn't see the ages and if the pregnancy with the 2 embryos tranfer result in 1 or 2. |

"it didn't help that I was watching TLC's "Deaf and Blind Triplets" last night"
That was a terrible story! I flipped past it and couldn't watch (and I have a healthy child and it would be extremely unlikely I could get pregnant with twins). I agree - definitely don't watch anything like that again! Good luck - we're rooting for you! |
My daughter is a result of a single 5 day embryo transfer. I was 37.5 at the time of my ER and I had 21 eggs retreived (18 mature and 17 fertilized, 1 for transfer and 8 frozen) I had FET;s after but they failed to implant. After you freeze eggs the quality goes down a bit. I go to SG too and the plan is to transfer 1 or 2 blasts (1 if it looks EXCELLENT) or two 3 day embryos. So what did your RE say the plan is with you? To transfer 2 blasts or 2 three day embryos? |
OP here: I thought the RE originally said transfer 2 blasts but when we spoke after the retrievel, I heard her say transferring one blast has the same success rate as transferring 2. I do worry about not being successful with one and then going through this with frozen as I have also heard that the success rate is lower with frozen and they would be plaing 2 or 3 with frozen ET which means again a risk of multiple if all goes well. So do we risk twins now or later? |
| Good luck PP with the fET. Did they transfer 2 blasts or 2 3day ET? I'm curious in case we ever need to go that route. |
OP here: thanks! I'll keep you all updated. Saturday is the big day. I'll have to find happier TV shows to watch or movies, but even the Food Network has challenges which seem stressful to watch as these contestants are panicking and rushing to get their meal out. |

| Yes, I read on theiSG website that they have an excellent single ET rate but it didn't specify if there was a difference in age group. being almost 39 my eggs are 39 years old vs someone whose eggs are younger so I worry about the chance of the embryo survival. I have a friend who also went to SG is 40 and had 2 day 5 blast transferred and only one took. She has other friends who had to have IVF 3 times or more before they got pregnant. So since this is our last effort, I would hate to put one in and have it fail. |
| Me with the single embryo transfer. I do go to SG. I think your RE and embryologist will help you make the right decision. |
OP here: so we're going in tomorrow morning for our transfer. It looks like it's going to be 2 since I'll be 39 this year. She was kind saying I'm on the border but she would recommend 2 blasts as long as we have no objections to the possibility of twins. We had 10 embryos yesterday, 4 did not divide from yesterday so I assume that means 6 are still dividing. I'm really hopeful there are at least 2 strong robust healthy blasts to transfer tomorrow. Wish us luck and keep us in your prayers. It seems like at my age there's b/t a 30-50% with 2 blasts that we would be pregnant but looking at the stats, only about 50% of pregnancies go on to a live delivery. I'm trying to think positively and relax tonight.

Put back 2 blasts now while you can! At 39 I really think this is the right decision.
Shady Grove's FET stats are dismal across all age groups (max of 30% if you are 34 and younger). Other clinics have higher stats for FETs. Not sure why and they admit to not knowing either. If I had known this going in, I would never have even wasted my money on a frozen. signed, shady grove patient (successful with fresh, neg with frozen) Good luck! |

PP here.
Also, if I recall correctly, Shady Grove's success rates with single blast transfers being as successful as double blast transfers is with "ideal" patients (less than 35, first IVF or previous successful IVF, normal FSH, good response to stims, etc). again, GOOD LUCK! |
