Sam Adams is a safe choice... and easy too. Just pick up one of those variety packs that they sell and you'll be good to go.
Total Wine is great, but probably unnecessary unless your guests are beer connoisseurs. |
|
Totally depends on the crowd, OP. Are they beer connoisseurs? Or are they mostly into wine or cocktails?
Also, the size of the crowd matters. |

Blue Moon with an orange slice
Or Red Stripe |
| I'm not a beer drinker but I usually try to pick up 2-3 kinds in the same way that I'd have a red and a white wine on hand. Sam Adams, either the lager or the seasonal. Often Blue Moon. Occasionally Bass Ale or Stella. In the summer months I'll get Corona or Red Stripe for fun. |
|
Big crowd: cases of Heineken Light or Amstel Light. They're usually on sale at Harris Teeter or Total Wine.
Smaller crowds, dinner party or BBQ: Goose Island 312, Dogfish Head Midas Touch, Delirium Tremens, Tsing Tao or Samuel Smith (not Adams) |
+1 good choice. I remember one wedding I went to and the bride's dad went with Schlitz and Old Milwaukee. I wondered why he even bothered.... |
Old School Wisconsin. Nice! Should have added Blatz, Olympia, and PBR for a Full House. |
red stripe is a fun, off beat and safe choice; everyone likes it. It's off beat because it's from Jamaica- not a place you normally associate with beer brewing craftsmanship. But, like their bobsled team, they can surprise you. Op maybe some Sam Adams and some red stripe. |
| Blue moon and carona |
| Sam Adamn has seasonal cases right now. Grab one if those and another six if their Boston and you're good to go. My go-to is Fat Tire or Yuengling. I hate IPAs and stick to lagers though. |
| I usually get Fat Tire, Pillsner Urquell, and throw in PBR. People love drinking PBR, I think its nostalgia. I always run out of that. |
|
Fat Tire is fantastic! Sam Adams or Yeungling are always crowd pleasers.
Blue Moon is popular but terrible...a big brewery answer to Belgian beer. Tastes like soap. |
The advice for smaller crowds here is good. Everything else is pretty low end... Just watch out for delirium bc Belgian beers get you crunked! Great Lakes is also a great choice. They make good beer. Stella, yuengling, Amstel, corona, etc are all just a half step above Budweiser, which is fine, but just depends on your crowd. |
| Most men I know like IPAs but most women I know don't. Get a variety. |
| Dales pale ale is great, and it comes in easy to open cans. |
