+1 These are fairly standard features now. |

OP,
save your money. i don't care what car you drive. day after day, the commute will suck your soul dry. i live 6 miles (VA) from my office in dc and most days i'm there in 25 minutes from door to door. |
| I have a similar commute and went from an old civic to a new prius and the commute got easier. Mostly due to Bluetooth and xm radio though |
| I spend a lot of time in the car. It is very important to me to have a car that I enjoy and is comfortable. I would say it is worth spending $ on. |
| Love my Mercedes. Never saw myself owning or driving one, but it really is a pleasure to drive. |
| I like the ride of a BMW over Mercedes. In any case, I love my luxury car and hate when I have to drive rental cars with front wheel drive, soft steering, cheap plastics chintzy interior and controls, and light doors that feel like I can rip them off the hinges. YMMV. |

Subaru or Honda or any number of other manufacturers will offer the stuff that makes the drive more comfy:
- xm radio - auto headlights - auto dimming mirror - remote start for cold days - rear window wipers - ipod integration - steering wheel controls - heated seats / steering wheel - dual zone climate - built in gps if you like it - bluetooth - leather seats I've owned two BMWs, an audi, a toyota, a subaru, a honda and even a lotus. In my experience the expensive cars are .... expensive. After about a week driving a BMW you dont really notice the firmer steering, it just feels normal. It's fun, but in 20 mph traffic, its... not. Now I admit, driving a subaru after driving a BMW will make the subaru feel awful, but just like switching from coke to diet coke, after a week or so you don't really notice that the subaru isnt quite as responsive or the steering isn't as firm. You adjust and get used to it. What I found really matters is bluetooth, leather seating and iPOD integration. That makes a drive more tolerable. The rest is nice, but not missed. I'd spend a $30K on a nicely equipped mid range car rather than trying to deck out a German one. Better yet, I'd ask myself why you tolerate such a commute in teh first place
|
| I just spent more than $140k on one and I wouldn't say my life is better but I do smile a lot while driving it. |
| When i switched from a honda to an entry level mercedes i starte d telling friends i was driving around in a library. Much much nicer experience. Mercedes or lexus. Repairs arent cheap but you wont need many the first years ..... |
Yea but the out years are crazy $$. |
| I love being stuck in traffic in my MBZ E55, but in my 911, hell no...I'll take a mazda over my 911 any day in traffic... |
Op said 40 to 80. You seem to have similar commutes if yours is 50+. |
| Man, I miss my old 79 Chrysler Newport. Now THAT was a car to live in. |
|
Probably, but you can do same/better elsewhere and be sure to add it the extra time/days you'll spend going to & from service appointments over time.
Not the most reliable cars (I've owned 3) and absurdly expensive to repair and maintain. |
