A troll is anyone who knowingly gives wrong/false/purposefully incomplete information.
A troll is anyone who restarts a conversation that's already been had 20 times before as if it's the 1st time they've asked the question, when they know they just want to stir the pot (even if the question is true/real). A troll is anyone who sock puppets (replies to their own posts as if they are a new/different poster). A troll is anyone who says outrageous or blatantly offensive things just to get a reaction. (As opposed to someone who just has outrageous or blatantly offensive thoughts which they choose to share... in other words, on this point, you can't tell them apart unless they keep going with it, in which case it's the troll, not the a-hole.) |
Agree with your definitions but curious about this bolded statement. Why is this the case? I would have figured both the troll and the a-hole would persist in the face of disagreement... |
| This board has had a small contingent who pounce on anyone who ever says anything positive about their school and who love to as though it was the boosters who were the ones doing the trolling. Some people are just jealous / easily threatened / remorseful, it seems - and just take it out on those who ended up in a better school. |
| Let people be excited about a school, geez everyone |
Good point, the a-hole will keep going too. I guess you can't tell them apart whether it's a one-off crazy post or repetitive. Meanwhile I should have also said, I don't think cheering for your school is trolling at all. Only if your boosting includes any of the above is it trolling. But being enthusiastic and maybe not giving a laundry list of every negative you know or have heard others say is NOT trolling all by itself. Unless you lie outright or are misleading intentionally. |
| Who cares, the DCUM police? |
Apparently every PP in this thread, except you. Troll!
|
| A troll is someone who copy/pastes the definition of troll. Come on people, the troll is the OP. Don't feed it. |
Sorry I'm not the troll, however I did comment on a MV thread with my same comment and thought that I'd start a thread on this issue. It comes up so often I figured I asked the quest to get other views on the definition. My DS is at Eaton, and there aren't any complaints from me. |
What?? You have no complaints about your school? Then you must clearly be one of those "troll boosters"... The only thing accepted here is negativity! LOL!

Having ZERO criticisms about a school doesn't make one a troll. It does, however, make someone a Pollyanna simpleton. Or on too high of a dose of Xanax.
Every institution has flaws. It's fine to keep silent about those flaws if you wish, but to never be *aware* of ANY area that needs improvement? Checked out. |
So you started a thread with the sole purpose of eliciting a reaction about positive comments. Okay. |
Positive, negative or in between. |
| The know-nothing haters are worse than the booster trolls. You know the types - the ones who insist on bashing, say, Hardy Middle School because they heard through a friend of a friend who has a kid in kindergarden in one of the feeder schools because she heard the kids are rowdy afters school. |
| Being a troll is being negative for the sake of being negative. "Booster troll" is an oxymoron. |
