Do they save the copy of the sample work ? I would like to get a copy of everything that was submitted and will it be okay to ask that ? Is it too early to ask ?
|
I think they do. The AART at our school implied to me that they make a copy of everything that is submitted. |
DC's AART did (last year). I emailed her and asked to see the file. She made a copy of it and left it for me in the office. That was fine with me since she's part-time and it would have been hard to get in to see her. If I had any concerns with the file or if DC hadn't been accepted first round, but I didn't want to take up her time just to see what was in the file. |
CORRECTION - I would have asked to meet with her if I had any concerns once I saw the file or if DC hadn't been accepted first round, but I didn't want to take up her time just to see what was in the file. |
Her test scores were very high, both 99 percentile, so I was curious about the GBRS. Her teacher's pretty close lipped about it so I had no idea what the GBRS would be. She got a 16 and the comments were really on target with what we observe at home so I was happy to see that they see the same child as we do. |
Why were you talking to the teacher last week? I thought parent teacher conferences were last year. |
| You can have a conference with a teacher anytime you have anything you would like to discuss. Parent teacher conferences are not just limited to once or twice a year. |
| Just got a copy of my child's GBRS. 15. Pretty excited about that. I guess because it shows me that what we see at home matches to what they see at school. Child was in-pool as well so I am hoping that with the high GBRS and test scores that he will be in. |
Maybe speak with your AART to see what they think about your chances. I spoke with our AART and she was confident that our DD will get in first round based on her package. |
Did you ask your kid's teacher or AART? Is it ok to ask them? |
I asked the AART. You have a right to look at your child's file at any time. |
| Looking at this discussion i mailed my school parent liasion about the scores. she said that our school has never done it before, but has received a few calls from parents this year for the first time. She said once the results are out, if an appeal is required, then the whole package copy is given. |

For anyone who is told they cannot see their child's file or that they need to wait to see it...here is the information that exists. You might want to remind the AART about this. So if they won't give you the info you want to see, then I suggest looking at these two documents.
http://www.fcps.edu/dss/ips/ssaw/SRR/2013-14SRR.pdf See section G and section H. Around page 43 I think. Also look at this document: http://www.fcps.edu/is/schoolcounseling/documents/ssrm.pdf There is a form at the bottom of that document to request records. |
| I just got my son's GBRS of 14 and am feeling a little disappointed. The commentaries were strong and detailed though it definitely focused more on the verbal and critical thinking rather than the quantitative. The teacher herself brought up that our son was clearly cut out for AAP and offered to refer if he didn't make the cut off - a statement that apparently is very strong (and she said she hardly ever offered this). I guess was hoping the GBRS would be a 15 or 16 to help more. This is my eldest child- just hopefully asking AAP who have BTDT. |
14 is an excellent GBRS. |
