| Leg up, comfort. Long trip - yup, feet on the dashboard. No shoes - almost always in the summer as my shoes come off too easily and it concerns me driving. |
OMG so glad someone else thought this too! |
| A few months ago, at a stop light, I pulled up next to a guy driving a van with his left leg sticking OUT OF the driver's side WINDOW. Like he was resting his foot on the driver's side mirror. It seemed so bizarre, I took a picture with my phone before the light turned green. |
You must not get out too often. |
| I almost always drive barefoot if I am wearing shoes that I can slip off. I feel much safer that way. My feet can grip the pedals and cannot slip. |

I prefer to drive barefoot or at least take my shoes off (if wearing socks) but obviously if I have lace-up shoes or boots on I will not take those off to drive unless on a long road trip.
My dad always hated this when I was in high school because he said if you get into a crash then the pedals (which are actually thin pieces of metal underneath all that rubber/plastic) will shear into your foot. I also tend to do weird things with my left leg (I drive an automatic) on long road trips. Drove cross-country twice two summers ago and my left leg was often propped up on the door or dashboard. I can only do this when wearing shorts or yoga pants/sweatpants. |
| Frankly, driving barefoot is a LOT safer than driving with stiletto heels which so many women do. |
Same here. |
| Monistat crisis? Time to air out? |
| I never cared one way or another until an EMT described the horrific injuries he's seen sustained by people with their feet on the dash due to the crumple zone. |

some of you are calling others stupid who might have better driving records than you. it reminds me of a quote: "a fool judges a book by its cover... just as fools judge persons by their appearance."
https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/2qbqwm/why_is_it_considered_so_bad_to_drive_using_both/ "Driving with one foot on each pedal respectively drastically increases your chance of accidentally braking/accelerating when you panic, which makes you more likely to get into a car accident. A 'Two Footed Panic' is a thing. Also, pressing both at the same time damages your car, turns on your brake lights, and wastes gas. You have to have one foot completely off the brake or accelerator before pressing the other one, and by only using one foot, you ensure this. If you use both feet, then you might accidentally hit both at the same time. Also, your brake lights being on confused other drivers." |
| I only drive with my right foot, which is the recommended practice, and sometimes I do put my left foot up on the seat. Not on the dash, but sort of like "criss cross applesauce" but just with the one leg. |

I think they're not driving manual transmissions. |
+1 it's very dangerous |
| How the hell do you know if a driver is barefoot? |
