| Compromising on sleep isn't ideal either. |
| I used to wake up an go running between 4 am and 5 am on most weekdays so that I could be back home before DD woke up. (Now I'm hugely pregnant- forget about it.) I would always give myself an extra 15 minutes before I got started to have a cup of coffee which helped tremendously. Once you get in a routine, it's not hard at all. And, like others have said, it set a great tone for my day. Despite the loss of sleep, I felt better for having run every single time. I think getting a workout in is worth compromising on some sleep. |
If you're thinking about going there, please just don't. This is a good discussion about finding time to work out. |

For those of you doing 5am workouts, what are you doing? I manage to get to a 6:30am yoga class when my DH isn't traveling, but I'm looking for a DVD/Instant video recommendation as well. Any suggestions? I did 30 day shred and thought it was just okay. |
| I alternate 5 mile runs with a 2 mile warm up and lifting. I use a gym though. At home I would use the Nike Training App and do one of the many circuits. Most don't require weights and can be done in 15, 30 or 45 minutes. You choose the level and your goal. They cue you on the different exercises and the timing. Hell of a workout and you don't even have to put it together on your own. And free! Give it a try. |

| I do my workouts at 5am too! 5 - 6:15 am is it or it doesn't happen. On the weekends, I start a bit later, though...6:30 or 7 am. I switch it up..run, bike, swim, weights, yoga... |
| How are you doing this without waking up your kids or spouse? |
At the gym. Or in the living room. I like in a split level though and my family sleeps like the dead. |
| I wake at 5:00 and either run (in a training program) or go to a 6:00am class at the gym. H handles mornings anyway so it works out, though running the dark (I wear light clothes, headlamp, reflective gear) sucks right now. I get home right before kids leave, I shower, and go. To work. Some days I take my stuff with me and get ready at the gym. I handle school pickups, dinner, homework. |
| My whole house would be up if I tried to get up at 5. |
| It will be hard for the first week or 2. Once you get in the swig of it you won't have any trouble. I hate planning evening workouts because they hang over my head all day. I have to be careful what and when I eat, traffic makes me more tense because it pushes everything back. Workouts first thing in the morning everyday are just like brushing your teeth. You don't think twice, you just do. That decision has been made. |
