Am I insane?
I want to start my workouts tomorrow, and the only time I have that I am not dying of exhaustion is 5:15-6am, before my baby wakes up! Then I get 2 other kids ready for preschool and the rest of the day I am the driver and doing errands, till about 4pm. Then get dinner ready, kids fed and ready for bed, clean up the house. By the time I put my feet up its 9pm and I am trying to get to bed by 10pm. I need tips and motivation on getting started. I am charging my ipod as we speak!!!! |
I work out from 5am to 610 am everyday, except for sat and sun when I go at 7. Its a great energy booster and the quite alone time is priceless.
I have been doing this since my kids were little. If it weren't for 5:20 am workouts, I'd have none. Jealous that you get to bed at 10 pm though.
Another 5am'er here. I love my morning workouts and have developed a whole routine for that 5-6am hour. It sets a marvelous tone for the rest of the day. My only problem is getting to bed at night.
I do it everyday during the week and then 9ish on the weekends. You get used to it. I prefer it because I feel it's the only way to guarantee a workout. Life happens sometimes and night workouts get missed all the time for lots of reasons.
Best time for me is 30 minutes at lunch. I can't consistently do it in the morning (sometimes I need to work or stay up late), or in the evenings.

Sounds like you would be stinting on sleep for a 5am wakeup, so that doesn't sound like a good idea. Why can't you find a gym with daycare a few days a week? Sounds like your DH doesn't do anything either -- at least a few days a week it seems like he could handle all the post-bedtime stuff (or you could let it slide) and you could workout.
You need to prioritize your own health. Trying to cram in working out on top of everything else and taking it away from sleep time is not a recipe for health. |
I get up at that hour and go to a Boot Camp class. It is the best thing ever. If I wait working out doesn't happen that day.
Awesome job, 5am-ers! I am inspired. I used to do that before I had a baby but now I prefer the sleep. I am really impressed with all of you for getting it done!
It took until my now toddler slept through the night before I started walking the dog in the mornings again. Now, DH has a job where he leaves by 6:30, so if I want to walk the dog, I need to be out the door by 6. After a few months of that, I now just get up when DH's alarm goes of, take the dog, and then use the extra time before the kids get up to do a 45 minute workout at home. It's not ideal, but I am with the rest of the crowd, if I can't get the workout in in the morning, it doesn't happen. After a couple of months, I now miss the workouts if I don't get up. There is something to say for having the workout done and not trying to fit in some time in the rest of the day.I try to be in bed by 10, but usually get there by 11.
I work out three times a week at 5:45 until 6:45 and Sundays at 9. I love it because it gives me the entire morning to be free..best to get it done early.
Yes, at 5am when everyone is asleep no one needs you for anything! That's why I started 5 am workouts. Also as others have noted, it helps to take a class so you have someone expecting you to show up.
Not insane at all! I'm hopeless without my daily workout, and if that means getting up at 5am to do it, than so be it. If I don't workout first thing, either I end up making excuses or the just becomes too busy.
For those who manage to do a 5 am workout, what time do you go to bed? Are you waking up at 5 or earlier to get somewhere for a workout?
Yikes, woman! How many errands do you have that they take until 4pm every day?
