You must live in Greenbriar. I used to live right across 50 from there. Great neighborhood for families. Commute to DC is doable, but not fun. Dulles/Tysons/Reston is more manageable.

Guilty. It is a nice neighborhood with relatively affordable housing and the amenities that most want close to many of the other major job hubs, just not very close to DC proper. We wouldn't be living here if we had to commute downtown. My neighbor does the commute and doesn't seem to mind it, but that is her own choice.

+1 for 4 corners area...great sfh homes, easy commute to anywhere but Tyson's corner, good schools, shopping and restaurants galore. $400 gets you in, $600 gets something updated and maybe a little larger.

what zip code is the 4 corners area of Silver Spring?
Anonymous
Brightwood/Takoma, 20011 and 20012. Renovated 3-level townhouses are going for as low as $380K depending upon the SF.

follow the good school ratings and then work your budget up from there. Be very careful of falls church zoning.

I love this thread!! I feel like I am the only person on this forum that doesn't have over 6-7-800,000 to spend! I've wanted a thread like this.

Mount Rainier, and nearby Hyattsville, especially the Avondale area

I'm the Rockville poster, but I also hear great things about Flower Valley.

I've said this before, but my aunt lives there. I LOVE this neighborhood. If I was able to live in MD, this is one of the neighborhoods I would have tops on my list. The prices have risen, but you can still get something under $600K.

There's a little pocket of houses in Silver Spring between Philadelphia, Piney Branch, and Sligo that have a Silver Spring address but are zoned for Takoma Park schools. So you get the benefit of being zoned for Blair rather than Einstein and get to pay SS taxes instead of TP. Same for the area on the other side of Piney Branch, north of Philadelphia and west of Carroll. There's not a whole lot listed right now, but I personally like the style of houses on the east side of Piney Branch more than those on the west.

Where is Flower Valley?

University Park, MD. Just north of Hyattsville. Lovely, well-kept homes in the $400s.

Flower Valley is Eastern Rockville, up Norbeck toward Silver Spring/Olney, on the north side of Norbeck.
