How to stop cats coming in my yard.

Try guilting the neighbors into controlling their cats? Post on the neighborhood listserve about outdoor cats killing fledglings, especially this time if year. The Smithsonian/National Zoo have studies on this if you want to give a link.

I hate birds and can't shamed into caring about my cat killing chickadees, grackles and flea ridden robins.

Otherwise, I'd set out poison.

Good way to go straight to jail for animal cruelty.

that's not cruelty also it is irresponsible for cat owners to let their house cats roam free and also dangerous because they will bring in diseases to the indoors. It should be illegal to have outdoor unattended cats.

I have the same problem. Three immediat neighbors with cats, and all three cats are constantly roaming around in my yard (and in other yards). They do actually pee in ground cover and in your herb garden, if you have one. Lovely.

DS' super soaker works somewhat, but not enough to keep them out of the yard consistently. None of the neighbors care about keeping them in. Nearly ran over one of them while backing out of garage--scared I'm going to one of these days, as they can't actually be seen very easily if they're directly behind (or under) the car.

Maybe OP's neighbors have bigger hearts than you do.

Purposely poisoning ANY domestic animal is animal cruelty! Someone should poison you.

Stupid feral cats carry rabies and aren't anyone's pet. If it is your pet, keep the damn thing inside. Otherwise, if I happen to spill antifreeze or set out rat bait, well.....

Sorry poster, youre sick in head and uninformed. It IS cruelty to lay out poison and very DANGEROUS to ALL LIVING THINGS. Could be eaten by any living thing including other dogs.

Vaccinated cats do not "bring in diseases to the indoors" any more than humans who track stuff on their shoes.

As long as cats and dogs are flea and tick treated, and vaccinated, the main danger to cats and from cats is to and from other cats (and to birds, but not so much if cats are fed) because they fight and get beat up.

As a person who owns both dogs and cats, I dont understand this bizarre contempt for cats.

Peeing on the grill- that sounds very much like a feral cat thing. A cat will pee on something that already smells kind of funky. If the grill was dirty and "pungent" that could have been an attractant. WHy does the grill not have cover? I mean, insects and birdpoop, this you are ok with? Put a cover on it. Unless it DID have a plastic cover? In which case I will say that cats do like to pee on plastic, for reasons unknown.

If I had my druthers, my cats would be indoor cats, to protect them from dogs, cars and ignorant hate filled humans! Luckily my cats are homebodies and love being in our own yard.

Ick. My neighbors tnr feral cats shit in my vegetable garden and pee on my cars. Damn right i set out poison. Keep your cats to yourself, since their right to exist stops at my yard. I don't want their fleas, their shit or their stinky pee.

NP here. For those of you that are like, 'get over it,' -- are you serious?? If my dogs came into your yard uninvited you'd be pissed as hell, but somehow if your cats are coming into my yard I should just deal with it? Noooo thank you.

I spray water on uninvited cats to teach them to stay out of the yard because the alternative is that my dogs will kill them. I give it my best effort to teach the cats to stay out, but I will not keep my dogs on a leash inside my own fenced yard just because your cats are wandering onto my property.

Wrong. We have alley cats in my neigborhood and they go under the mudroom addition to my house and use it as a litter box. We recently got a dog and that hasn't stopped the little bastards either.

I've had success with pepper spray but you have to apply it pretty frequently. You spray it over the ground and then when they pee/scratch, it's unpleasant for them. (Cat lovers - I don't want to hear your sob stories about how this is cruel. My mudroom/backyard smelling like cat piss is cruel to me.) You can make your own by mixing Tabasco, water and a little dish soap (to help it stick). Good luck.
