How to stop cats coming in my yard.

Anonymous
We have 2 dogs and a fenced yard. I have seen 3 different neighborhood cats in our yard over the past couple of weeks, The dogs go crazy looking out the window and I dont want cat pee anywhere, ( the grill cover for example that we left on the deck)

Any suggestions for warding off cats?

Wnen you see one, you could spray it with a hose (gently, just enough to scare it).

Try to find their owner's and have a talk w/them.

Spraying them with water is cruel since cats are by nature hydrophobic.

You don't know much about cats, do you? They aren't like dogs, needing to mark every territory they venture into. You can't really control them, so don't bother thinking about them. They aren't going to be leaving cat pee anywhere you will be able to identify.

Have you ever seen someone screen in their yard (tall fence with mesh canopy to it)? It's like creating a huge catio around their house. Do it, but instead of trying to keep cats in, you will keep them out.

Oh, please.

They are probably feral cats. No owners involved.

Spray away with a water pistol, OP.

Why wouldn't there be owners? Many people have outside cats. I would not worry about the cats peeing on your deck. That's not what cats do. They pee in dirt. As for your dogs, let the cat get one look at your dogs, and I doubt she'll be back.

Cats prefer to pee in bushes and ground cover. They are not pissing on your deck, LOL.

OP here, one definitely peed on the grill cover, it stunk of cat pee. I dont know if theyve peed or pood anywhere else but that annoyed me.

I think one is feral and the other two have homes, just based on their condition

The water wont work because as soon as I open the sliding door then run off and jump over the fence.

Op again, thanks for the link 19:43, I am going to try a couple of those suggestions.

The problem with feral cats in your yard is not pee, it's fleas. I'd take necessary precautions to protect the dogs.

Water sprinkler with a motion sensor.

Otherwise, I'd set out poison.

Good way to go straight to jail for animal cruelty.
