That's hysterical. First PH is awful because the new homes are next to crap shacks and there is no continuity to the area. Now PH is awful because all the homes are new and look just like that one. You're reaching. Really, really reaching.

I'm not the PP, but I think they were saying the TP house looked like it probably was on a street with 6 just like it. As in, most new construction neighborhoods look cookie cutter?

The first house (big, yellow one) is in TP. The second is a new built in PH.

Multiple posters. The first critique is more on the mark. There are a bunch of houses in PH no more interesting than this, but they aren't on the same block. The sad thing is that some of the PH boosters think it will be really great when entire blocks look like this.

Oh, FFS - now I see. The title is completely misleading. I thought TP was the newer construction, not Pimmit.

Jesus H, people - learn how to write.

That TP listing makes me kind of sad. It's such a personal house that it's a shame the owners are selling it.

OK, why the hell did they do THAT to the house in TP? It looks so drab and awful from the outside - and come to find out it is newer construction? Were they trying to ugly-it-up to fit in with the surrounding neighborhood? They had to have spent a fortune on that interior remodel, and they couldn't fix the exterior?

The TP house was built in 2006, so it's newer construction for TP. The PH house was built even more recently.

I think the point was probably that people who build new in TP try to do something interesting that looks like it belongs in the neighborhood, whereas people in PH say "this is Merica" and throw up a McMansion in a month.

You are so hysterical if you think people pick houses based on exclusively aesthetic decisions. As if things like budget, commute, schools, location, amenities etc. are completely irrelevant. Oh no. It's all about give me the cutest house in the best architecturally consistent area with perfect landscaping and houses that look different enough to satisfy my craving for visual diversity but similar enough to make me feel safe that I am in fact still in my natural habitat.

I am the PP you quoted. I have no idea what you are talking about. I was just commenting on the two photos. I know nothing about Pimmit Hills or even what state it is in. I have never heard of it before. The second house just looked super generic to me, so I thought it would be in one of those cookie cutter neighborhoods.

Your argument is a red herring. No one said people pick houses based "exclusively" on such factors. On the other hand, when people are completely oblivious to aesthetic factors, and just build their own McMansions on their own little plots, you end up with ugly places like Pimmit Hills. All you have to do is look at Bethesda and Vienna to see how it can be done better.

I don't think you're going to fool anyone with this. That house is 1000X more interesting than the house in Pimmit Hills.

They didn't ask people to compare neighborhoods. They posted a picture of two houses. Your argument cannot be made without seeing the rest of the neighborhood, and that never came up, did it.

And I don't think anyone on this board has ever called PH beautiful. People buy there for reasons other than beauty.

I actually love the TP house, like really really love it. But it's in Maryland, which is a no-go for me. For that reason, I'd pick the PH house. But that TP house ... drool.
