Most of the people I know who are truly happy did not attend an IVY or SLAC--they actually moved beyond college and are not limited to equating their self-worth to their academic pedigree. |

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Happy trolling. |
I know, right? I would have been nicer to OP except I'm pretty sure this is the troll who's been going after everyone else (naive posters, affirmative action, ivies) for the last few months. |
I went to a top 20 university, not Ivy but as selective and highly ranked as almost any LAC. I would call myself very
successful although I chose my profession knowing it would make me happy and not rich. However I also work with plenty of people who are as successful as I am or more so who went to state schools (Ohio, Temple, Vermont, Michigan State, Minnesota, Morgan State) or private schools that don't get as much love here (Howard, GW, U of Rochester, Morehouse) |
Actually, I think OP is reminding folks of something really important and I very much doubt she's motivated by envy (and, for the record, I went to a SLAC). |
Meh, if you look at OP's post at 12:22, he's a troll motivitated by ... uh ... asshattery. He DOES raise a good point, but I hope we all know that point already. |
Judging from other posts on this board, I don't think your hope is reality. |
there are over 2,000 four year colleges in the U.S. and maybe 50 worth going to.
I'd say alumni support is important and there are many non-Ivy/SLAC with very good alumni networks in certain parts of the country. |
Went to a state university. Am very successful AND happy in life. |
same, same but I couldn't even get accepted now to the state university I attended. Things have really changed. |
me too. maybe we even went to the same one.... |
All of us work with successful adults who have been to a mix of ivies, state colleges, and colleges you never heard of. We all know that performance isn't directly linked to the name on your diploma. We've also seen that the happiness of our coworkers and neighbors isn't directly linked to the name on the diploma, either. Unless you're a hermit, I don't know how a person could miss this. |
So, who knew there were so many hermits on DCUM? |
Um, you're right. No one on this board went to Maryland. |
