This is how they used to mock Arlington before the Metro went in and look at it now - people falling all over themselves to live there. The truth is that the Metro coming to Tysons will be a big game changer

These posts about Tysons make me laugh. It's office parks and malls and that's what it will always be. Nothing wrong with that- we need good malls. Oh and can't forget car dealership central.

I don't hate Tysons at all. And I think the Metro's arrival will be great. But the Metro in Arlington was placed beneath relatively narrow streets, not highways. That's a different scenario.

does this look familiar, arlington was a car dependent crap hole much worst than tysons now. I mean really dirty looking where at least tysons has high end and finished office spaces before the metro is going in.

Have you ever looked at a map of Arlington? It is made up of small residential and commercial blocks. In the 50s and 60s before all the Metro redevelopment, close to 80% of public school kids in Arlington walked to school. Try doing that in Tysons today.

You are comparing just one Arlington neighborhood to Tyson's, but ok. Rosslyn in 1967 was more walkable that Tyson's today, hands down. There were sidewalks, skywalks, and retail along the major streets. Pre-1967 Rosslyn was even more walkable, when it resembled an old town with small blocks that were bulldozed to build the Rosslyn of the 60s and 70s. Your photos don't really support your argument.

Once again, I encourage you to look at a map of Arlington. Compare it with a map of Tyson's. The residents in Lyon Village walked to Clarendon to shop in the 40s, the 60s and they still do today. Try doing that in Tyson's. Can you walk from your single family home in McLean or Pimmit Hills to Tyson's. No.

I prefer Tysons. All the conveniences of everything I want are right here, my commute to DC is short, and the schools are excellent. Every freaking thing is right here. Bed Bath. Petsmart. H&M. Whole Foods. Trader Joes. Best Buy. Staples. DSW. Carters. Nordstroms. CHICCOS! (jk) Every type of food imaginable. There is no reason to leave except to go to Target, but soon we will have that or a Walmart. Everything is 5 minutes from my house - and some I can walk to, or if I don't walk, the bus to everything goes in front of my house. I am all about convenience.

I don't like to walk to buy cat litter or a week of groceries or Target shopping. I definitely prefer to drive all those bags home. You "walkable" left wing loons must not buy anything. How do you live? Maybe you don't cook, clean, or have a pet or baby.
