I can't believe my kid got into X college . . .

It's one of the top ivies in the country by most measures including admissions ratios, but I'm uncomfortable outing DC.

+1000

I believe the purpose of the thread was to get at successful admission stretches - your average kid (by DC standards any way) getting into a college that appeared to be above her/his reach.
I would not find that obnoxious and actually would love to hear what may have tipped the scales.

I would be cool if you added why you "can't believe it".

Not such a coup if you're paying full-freight, which is why your kid got in, btw.

Haha. Wrong again. Nice try, only six more to go, so I'm stopping now. You'll just have to suffer in ignorance.

Ther's an Ivy with a higher rate of admission than U Penn? I didn't know that.

Both Yale and Princeton.

I knew she would get in wherever she applied, but we didn't expect to be offered so much in financial incentives.

She turned down both.

Most of them have lower rates of admission than Cornell or UPenn. Which are fine schools (I went to Penn) but DC doesn't go to either.

MIT. I was surprised because his last math and science grades were not all As. Not a full ride but a nice partial scholarship. Student loans, hello!
