It is unbelievably impressive to me that the lead actress, writer, and creator of this show is 26 years old. How is someone who understands slacking and entitlement so well this accomplished at such a young age? Are her parents in the industry or something? I love this show. |
so funny, but I agree. To be that young and be out of shape is just unfathomable to me--and I don't particularly want to look at anyone who lets themselves look a doughy 45 year old when they're in their 20s. I'll forgive a gal a whole hell of lot after 40, though...esp if not too wrinkly. Stay out of the sun, young Shirleys! |
They are in the industry, as are the parent(s) of the other three stars of the show. So it's a story about four privileged girls who can't seem to get their shit together, starring four privileged young ladies who possibly couldn't get their shit together if they needed to, but we'll never know since they have lots of family $ and connections to fall back on. |
I feel the same way about some of the young women I work with, to be totally honest. No, I'm not perfect, but I'm a 40 year old mother of two, working full-time outside the home, and I get my biscuit to the gym 5-6 mornings a week and eat unprocessed foods as much as possible so that I'll look and feel good. And then I see these 20-something women walking around my office all shlumpy, and I'm like please girls, what are you so busy with that you don't at least have time to take a 30 minute walk once a day and iron your clothes? |
Totally agree about the lead character. When she and her "boyfriend" have sex I shudder at the thought of their potential offspring. I am uncomfortable looking at them. |
I LOVE the fact that Lena Dunham is a totally NORMAL looking woman. Not some air-brushed, typical starlet, with an awesome bod and beautiful face. She looks like someone you might actually know (or look like yourself). I find it incredibly refreshing!!! |
My husband thinks she (Lena Dunham) is pretty. Not conventionally pretty, of course, or super-pretty, but pretty. |
I agree, and without Dunham being not conventionally attractive and willing to be sexual and show her body in ways that are designed to make the audience uncomfortable, this show would be nothing. The whole show rests on her hyper confessional vulnerability. |
ITTTTA. I also disagree with the pp- I don't see any moral superiority in being thin vs. not thin, or having trendy clothes vs. wrinkled clothes. Who cares if you wake up early and work out every day? Its your choice, it doesn't make you a better person than someone else. |
+1 There are plenty of shows with impossibly thin, beautiful women with flowing hair. I'm glad this show is not following the old Hollywood rules. |
I actually know very few ppl that fugly in real life. She is one ugly woman--Hillary Clinton today puts her to shame. She needs to lose weight for health reasons. All of that mid-section fat at 26 is dangerous. Her stomach sticks out farther than her chest. |
Don't get me started on her fat tattooed arms. She's only 26-- imagine what she'll look like if she has kids one day. |
I think she is average-sized. She has a normal looking body to me. She is short and curvy and we are so used to seeing stick-thin women on TV, it probably makes her seem larger.
|
Exactly. And the character calls for her to be a frump and a mess. |
She really goes out of her way to look like shit though. |
