If you see her talking about the show after it's on she looks much more put together. She's in character on the show - obviously - and I think it's fantastic to see such a regular looking woman on a major television show. The other 3 women are also on the spectrum of regular people. Allison Williams is the most attractive, but even she seems more 'normal' than some of the Hollywood types we see all the time. I'm always amazed when I watch a British TV show or movie at how the actors and actresses look like the rest of us. So refreshing. |
OP, thanks for your post. I thought it was only me. |
she's much more attractive in real life. unlike most of you, who are much older than she, she's willing to look bad, make fun of herself and her flaws, and still be refreshing. the british girl who's supposed to be super hot isn't much more than normal looking either - and i love it! finally a show that lets girls be real. awesome, just awesome. and the "40 year old mother of two" judging women in your office by appearance and getting your "biscuit" to the gym - ugh. hope you don't have daughters, you judgmental, nasty thing. |
ITA. She has made a film (Tiny Furniture) and now has a compelling show on HBO, all by the age of 26. And you people are worried about her looks? I think she's totally gutsy to put herself out there not looking airbrushed and perfect. I wonder what biscuit ass did by age 26? |
I think she looks fuglier than the average person and is more akward than most. Date rape jokes in an interview? Finger in ass first time having sex? Makes me cringe but I keep on watching.
Fwiw, I hadn't accomplished shit by 26, but I'm good at judging others. |
LOL! By 26 I hadn't done much of anything if you're going to hold me to that standard. But I do appreciate being called biscuit ass. And so you can judge me now, you should know I do have a daughter and hopefully I'm setting a good example for her by doing what I can to be healthy and fit. |
Biscuit ass = flaky and lardy? |
Ugh, this post has made me enjoy the show less. |
Ha! You wish. biscuit ass = good enough to eat |
Ha! You wish. biscuit ass = delicious, craved |
I saw her on The View. She looked the same as she does on the show in real life: fugly. That ain't curvy--that's fat. j-lo and beyonce are curvy. With 40% of America obese-- no wonder some of you think its normal. It's not. |
I think what people don't realize is that a big part of Lena dunhams writing/character is the embracing of the hipster lifestyle/attitude. I have about 10 years on her but was a hipster (equivalent) back in the day and can completely relate 1000%. The girls looked like that, dressed like that and it was a time when piercing a everywhere were cool and tattoos were the norm. |
I realize this particular post is over a year old, but I must point out that you've conflated the character with the writer. They are not the same. Lena Dunham, as an accomplished, Emmy winning writer at the age of 26, has the generational (and other?) awareness to write about a character who fucks up when she sticks her finger in a guy's ass during their first sexual encounter together. |
I think the numerous, wide ranging discussions sparked by this show demonstrate that they could, in fact, get their shit together when they needed to. No argument that they got an opportunity because of their relations-- and that bugs me-- but Girls is a provocative, relevant, generationally insightful TV drama. HBO isn't going to create and air a show that isn't terrific to watch. Lena Dunham and her castmates deserve their accolades. (. . . So I declare, even as I resent the disparity of opportunity between Dunham and the many talented children of Nobodies.) |
I'm 35, husband is 37 and we both love the show. There are very few elements of the show that mirror my early 20s life, but I still find it clever and enjoyable to watch. |
