Girls on HBO

As a white lady who graduated from a liberal arts college fifteen years ago, some of the things I've been thinking while watching the show.

1. My friends and I made equally bad choices and embarrassed ourselves in as many ways, but it didn't feel as bad at the time as this looks. I don't know what, if anything, that says about me.
2. It would seem more realistic if it was a little gayer and more multi-racial, and if there were more real problems mixed in with the fake problems, but maybe realism isn't what the writers are going for.
3. Shouldn't there be some kind of viable fourth wave feminism by now?

Very intriguing question. . .

I keep thinking you are way too young to be that out of shape and blubbery. There is nothing redeeming about her face, her clothes are horrible, her hair is horrible, she has no chin, her front teeth suck, and she has an annoying personality. I want to see her get on a treadmill, stop wallowing in her misery and do SOMETHING other than complain and feel sorry for herself.

so funny, but I agree. To be that young and be out of shape is just unfathomable to me--and I don't particularly want to look at anyone who lets themselves look a doughy 45 year old when they're in their 20s. I'll forgive a gal a whole hell of lot after 40, though...esp if not too wrinkly. Stay out of the sun, young Shirleys!

Which sorority were you guys in?

I just saw this show last night...can someone fill me in? Why are these women/men look like they desperately need a shower, treadmill, and live life on the verge of contracting HIV? Is this "cool"? Is this the voice of that generation?

Yup, you do sound and probably are shallow. Are you perfect? I doubt it.

I'm with her. She's a complete slob. No redeeming qualities at all.

And no, PP, you don't sound shallow. Just unafraid to say what you think

Sex & The City was my generation. Much more comical.

Girls--I don't relate to at all. None of my friends were like these women post-college (we are in mid-late 40s now). We were never that aimless, that nit-picky and annoying. We just went out and partied---while working hard at careers.

My husband commented that he wanted to turn the fire hose on all of them. They all looked like they needed a shower. Though he said--it's how he feels about Brooklyn in general.

I watched season one and one ep of season 2 and then i stopped and have not looked back. All of the unbathed bodies just bothered me and was too much of a distraction. There are other things for me to watch.

Anticlimactic series ending tonight.

Agree, guess this was their way of having Hannah grow up.

Totally disagree. I thought it was beautiful and completely captured having a baby/ growing up.

Hannah is such an unappealing character on every level. She's insanely self-absorbed and horrifyingly needy. I'm not going to judge Lena Dunham's body but I'd ask her why she feels compelled to write so much nudity for her character into the script because it certainly doesn't add anything to the narrative.

What happened to Adam? I thought he and Hannah were together and then he disappeared.

Maybe he was enveloped by the dark side?

No Hannah realized they weren't meant for each other and he went back to Jessa.

Yes. That's what happened when she burst into tears in the booth in the restaurant.
