s/o--are dyson's really better?

They suck really well but mine is hard to push. Not a fan for the price.

We have several pets, and we killed two vacuums in less than a year before we tried a Dyson. That vacuum lasted about ten years before we had to replace it, and the current one is going on three years. I can't say how it compares to the alternatives available now, but I've never had any complaints with the ones we've had, so I would say they are definitely worth considering.

Haha, does this really work well? I know someone related to the creator and she's insufferable so I always ruled it out, but desperate times....

Same as PP. Our dogs kept killing vacuums. But Dyson has been going strong for 10+ years. I agree with others that attachments are a PITA though.

I did a lot of research on vacuums about 6 months ago. Considered a Dyson and Miele, among others, and we also already have an Oreck. The Oreck is great, but not on wood floors; much better on carpet. We opted for the Miele -- I LOVE it. Hands down, best vacuum, and I was very skeptical that a vacuum could be as good as everyone said it was.

My dyson has survived 8 years of almost daily use thanks to 3 long-haired cats. It's starts to loose suction after a while so I take it apart & clean it about once a year and that does the trick.

Consumer Reports does not like Dysons. They say there's better vacuums out there for less than $100.

Yes. My husband has allergies, so we bought a Dyson, and it is great. It's held up for five years including a cross-country move.

your vacuum held up well on a cross country move???!!!!??? Wow, impressive. Not sure how it handled the wagon train ....

She prefers the no-name $100 one I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond when I moved to DC and needed something for my teeny apartment that I lived in alone, and I'm pretty skeptical it was possibly a better vacuum.

Two things I do like about it are the no filters and the canister is super easy to empty.

Your cleaning lady doesn't like The Dyson because it's more work. If you use your Dyson, how many times are you emptying that canister full of dog hair, dust and floor filfth?

I love my Dyson. I bought it after replacing vacuums (yearly). Had it for 6 years and it still runs like I just bought it.

We adore our dyson - long haired cat and long haired dog over here. But we are in a similar boat as other people where we had cheap crappy ones first. It would be interesting to see people who have compared their Dyson to other high end vacuums.

I will say that I just got a newer model of Dyson and the attachments are WAY easier than the old model, so consider that as well. It is still kind of a bear to push though.

We just made the jump and bought a Dyson. First thing I vacuumed our family room (which had been vacuumed recently). If I could only show you what was in the Dyson. The room is maybe 300 sqft? At least 1/4 cup of dirt in addition to fibers, dust, hair. NUTs. We bought it after having real allergy issues this spring.

Funny, we also did a ton of research about 6 months ago. We have a Hoover upright and a Miele cannister. We loved the Miele, but one big problem we had was getting it serviced several years ago. Most places don't stock parts and it takes a while to order. We also had problems getting additional bags for the cannister, etc. The usual problems for imported products. Definitely was a pain. So, after doing a lot of research (including reading up on about 30 models reviewed by CR) we ended up with the LG Kompressor LUV250. And after 6 months of using it, it's fantastic. I also found it online for less than the local stores plus free S&H, so it saved me about 15% of the price on top of the fact that it is significantly less expensive than either the comparable Dyson or Miele options.

Have had our Dyson for 5 years and it's been the longest lasting vacuum I've owned. I like that you can just hose down the filter.
