| We have the upright and the canister. No pets. I do find that they suck up a lot of stuff, but cleaning them out makes a huge puff of yuck, even when I put it deep inside the trash can. My canister is really hard to maneuver (but I think they've made changes to it since then). My upright often won't switch b/t hardwood and rug without about 10 button pushes and sometimes I have to just turn it off and back on. We had a Kenmore before and it's definitely an improvement. Haven't bought a Miele yet. Heard that once you make the investment, you never go back. Probably should have done it originally. |
Eh, I like our Dyson quite a bit. I don't always find that Consumer Reports gives the best advice. |
| 7 years and my Dyson Animal just stopped working. Up until buying a Dyson, I was buying a new cheaper vac every year. I had one hoover that only lasted 2 months. After that I bought the Dyson Animal. I will be buying a new Dyson in the next couple weeks. It wont be an animal but one of the lighter ones. |

We've had our dyson for 5 years and it's still going strong. Just bought another one to have on a separate floor.
Everyone I know is happy with them, and I think Consumer Reports is crap. |
When our dyson died (the motor quit) after less than two years, we went with CR's top recommendation for $80. It's a hoover, I think. And that was 5+ years ago. Still going strong. Yes, it uses bags, but it's just a better machine. I've put that thing through lots of abuse-- two cats, toddlers, even outdoor use (grr, husband). |
