Why do you support Obama?

Because he is black...who the hell cares what he does, he is black and gets my vote

B/c he is a socialist.

A socialist would have nationalized the banks instead of lending them money. Now way in hell is he a socialist. You want him to be a socialist because you are a Republican, but he's not.

And I'm not gay nor will I ever need an abortion.

This. I agree with most Dem policies anyways, and think they do actually have ideas and priorities around bringing people out of poverty. Even if I didn't, until Republicans stop being the anti-minority, anti-gay, anti-everything party, I will never vote for one. There are many (not as many as before) moderate Republicans who in their hearts are probably decent individuals who care about this country as a whole. But so long as they align themselves with bigots, misogynists, and xenophobes, they'll never get my vote.

I don't have any trust that one day they won't haul my completely legally-immigrated self out of this country. They're on a very slippery slope, and I don't think they have a sense for the changing demographics in this nation or that they really care about helping those who need the most help.

Because as a woman I value my right to vote and I'm pretty sure given the path the Republicans are headed it's only a matter of time before they start questioning whether that's legitimate.

+1 what a fucking idiot. Conservative / Republican women are just as strong as liberal women when it comes to rights like voting, decision making etc... ASK any of them who are SAH moms or work and they are a MAJOR part of all decisions the male makes (sometimes they are the final say person, at least in my house). Because they don't fit the hollywood popular cultural mold of pro choice anti marriage, understanding that men and women are different they are percieved by the left to be weak or wanting to give up their rights.

I think you are right, that poster jumped the shark on voting rights. But the Republican party has bigger women's issues.

You have just five female senators. Of them, Susan Collins has a 83% NARAL Rating. Olympia Snowe has an 83% NARAL rating, and one is Murkowski who was handed her first term by her own father, so you have really two conservative women elected free and clear by the Republican Party out of 47 Republican senators.

And out of 242 Republican House Members, you have but 23 women. That's under 10% vs 25% for Dems.

Something is wrong. Either the party has a problem attracting female candidates, or it has a supporting them. So forget what Hollywood says. Look at what Republicans say. The numbers do not lie.

I don't think she's an idiot. I think her example is extreme. But you cannot deny that the Bible has some strong opinions about the proper role of women in society. People who hold out the Bible as their authority on religion, and their religion as their authority on politics, may have some questionable ideas about women. See McDonnell's famous thesis about fornicator, cohabitators, women working outside the home....

Keep in mind that women were given the right to vote because the white male power structure wanted to dilute the black male vote.

It's been less than 100 years since we got voting rights. Don't get too comfortable.

Concerning the right to vote, I agree with 8:49 that it is extreme to predict a GOP assault on the right of all women to vote, but their "voting security" initiative is an attack on the voting rights of all poor women (and men, too).

Agree both that it was an extreme example and that she has a point. I thought contraceptive rights were pretty well settled, too...

My point was extreme to make a point. I never thought birth control would be up for debate but it is. I fear how far this regression will slide and I will not support any movement in that direction.
